Fitting neatly in the very heart of Mumbai, Dharavi is in many ways a thriving metropolis in its own right. Not only do a very large number of people live there, but in its streets and alleys lies all the hustle and bustle of what can easily be described to be an economy.
Aside from the fact that past studies have tried to evaluate the GDP of Dharavi and that despite everything it is somewhat of a tourist and shopping destination (leather, mostly) Dharavi is also one more thing. It is a training ground for aspiring artists!
On India’s 69th Republic Day, we bring you the story of a hero and mentor who is nurturing Dharavi's kids’ Bollywood dream. We bring to you the story of Baburao Ladsaheb, Dharavi’s favourite acting and dancing guru. In the video above, Baburao Ladsaheb speaks to Republic TV's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami as a part of the #ProudToBeIndian campaign.
