Kamala Mills Hero Constable Sudarshan Shinde Honoured For His Bravery

Mumbai Police Constable Sudarshan Shinde who saved eight lives in the deadly Kamala Mills fire has been honoured for his bravery.

Arriving as a first-responder on that fateful night, Constable Shinde rushed into the blaze and carried out survivor-upon-survivor upon his shoulders.

Here's Sudarshan Shinde's narration of events: 

“We were at Worli Police Station near Chowpatty and there was a 'nakabandi' between 12 am -2 am. Worli one and police staff were present there. We were conducting 'nakabandi'. We got a wireless message that there was fire in Kamala City. We rushed to Kamala City with our vehicles. We saw several vehicles over there. The fire brigade vehicle, NM Joshi police station vehicle and several people were present at the spot. When we reached, there was a massive blaze.”

He added, “there were no rods, but bamboo was there. Nothing else. The exit point was blocked, fire brigade officials broke it open. When the fire was doused we rushed down, but there was thick smoke, we could not see anything. fumes affected our eyes, ears, and nose."

"We started coughing. we continued to rescue people. After we got back, we became careful. We did not want to slip and fall. we got slow as there was water, and the steps were watery.”
