The Election Commission has rejected Tamil actor Vishal's nomination for RK Nagar bypoll.
Post the announcement the actor has now sat on a Dharna in Chennai and has resisted arrest.
It's mandatory that at least 10 people from the particular constituency propose the person who files the nomination, but the particulars of some people who nominated Vishal have irregularities. Hence the actor's nomination has been rejected by the returning officer & he cannot contest in the election.
In the actor's nomination form as seen below, proposer Sumathy (First) and Deepan (Ninth) are reportedly found to be forced.
Actor Vishal, who announced his entry into politics on Saturday, filed his nomination papers for the RK Nagar bypoll on Monday.
The byelection, which is being held to fill the assembly seat vacated by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, has already seen many controversies. The elections had to be deferred earlier this year after major allegations of voters being bribed had surfaced.
