In a shocking case of medical apathy, a video emerged on Saturday from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh where an amputated leg was used as the pillow for the same patient. These shocking visuals expose the extent of apathy that exists in medical centres across India.
The incident occured in the Maharani Laxmibai Medical College in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. The patient got injured in a road accident in Bareilly where his lower part of his left leg was severely injured. He was then treated at the emergency ward in the hospital where his amputated leg was used as the pillow.
What is more shocking is that the principal of the Medical College blames the family of the victim saying that it was actually the patients family who kept the leg under his head when hospital authorities asked them to lift his head.
“We kept asking why he wasn’t given a pillow, none of the doctors listened to us, then we had to take the leg and keep it aside.”
Janaki Prasad, one of the relatives of the patient however refuted the hospitals claims saying that they found the amputated leg under his brother-in-law’s (patient) head when they came to the hospital. “When we arrived at the hospital we found his amputated leg under his head, when we asked the hospital about it, they didn’t answer anything. Nobody heard us from eight in the morning till two in the night,” said Prasad who is the brother-in-law of the patient.
