Fringe leader Suraj Pal Amu has been detained and sent to preventive custody on Thursday. According to Gurugram police sources, Amu has been taken into preventive custody in view of violence in Gurugram and his recent instigating statements. The sources have said that the police will take a call if they have to make a formal arrest.
Earlier on Thursday, Suraj Pal Amu threatened Republic TV for its coverage of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmaavat'. He also issued a threat to forcibly stop Republic TV from reporting and speaking against fringe.
“Aisi baat karne se pehle main logo ka muh band kar deta hoon apne haath se (I shut people up before they dare to say anything like this)," he said.
Earlier in November last year, Amu had announced a bounty of Rs 10 crore on Deepika Padukone's head. He also made headlines after he lashed out West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee for supporting Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus. Amu later had to step down for his outrageous remark as the media coordinator of Haryana BJP.
The Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus, which released on Thursday, has been embroiled into controversy since its inception. While various Hindu and Rajput fringe outfits have raised objections over the epic drama, the Supreme Court has given a green signal to the film.
