Days after a massive outrage erupted over the rape incidents in Kathua and Unnao, BJP President Amit Shah broke his silence on the issue while speaking exclusively to Republic TV’s Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami on Nation Wants To Know. Shah said that he did not issue a statement on the issue as the CID had already filed a charge-sheet in the case.

“The reason why my statement was not needed was because the CID had already filed a chargesheet in the case. now, the bar association went on a strike, you see the order of events, chargesheet was already filed by J-K government in the court. The bar association went on a strike and the head of the bar association was the election agent of Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, where does BJP come in this,” said the BJP President.

Amit Shah also claimed that there was no link of BJP leaders in the Kathua rape case and the BJP took moral responsibility and its leaders resigned because of that.

“There was no link of BJP leaders. initially, when there was a hue and cry about some innocents being framed in the village, they went to the village and they were demanding a neutral inquiry. so what would they say and do? They never said leave anyone, they never said 'don't arrest anyone.' They demanded a neutral investigation and the probe was given to the CID. Still, due to this issue being picked up by the media and the public perception, our leaders resigned on grounds of moral responsibility,” said Shah.

“These leaders only assured people who had gathered in the village that there will be a fair investigation and the cid was investigating after that,” he added.

When he was asked whether he is satisfied with Yogi Adityanath’s action over the Unnao rape case, wherein the victim had accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar, Amit Shah said,

“The moment the case came to my knowledge, the next night Yogi had taken a decision at night that there will be a CBI probe into the matter. No matter how many probes they would have done in the matter, they would have been confused and there would have been politics over it. The same night he decided that there will be a CBI probe in the matter. CBI was sent a letter next morning around 10:30 am, the CBI took over the case within four hours and made the arrest at night.
