A terrorist was killed in an encounter with Assam Rifles personnel in Chandel district bordering Myanmar today, police said. The encounter took place at Chamol village, about 18 km from Chakpikarong police station, at around 5 am. Additional forces have been rushed to the remote village, the police said. The jawans were conducting the Road opening party procedure at the time of the attack.
The encounter comes barely two days after two 18 Assam Rifles jawans were killed and six others were injured when militants exploded a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Man Mani village in the same district.
In a statement emailed to the local media, the banned insurgent outfit Revolutionary Peoples Front (RPF) had claimed responsibility for Monday's attack.
