Economist Kaushik Basu and Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta's Twitter handles were on Tuesday hacked allegedly by Turkish Pro-Pak hackers, who else than a month ago were also behind the hacking of India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Syed Akbaruddin's social media handle. The incident came to light after followers and friends of Kaushik Basu and Swapan Dasgupta took to Twitter to warn against messages and posts being received from both the handles. As of now, the accounts have been taken down by the social networking giant.
Kaushik Basu was the Chief Economist of the World Bank from 2012 to 2016. A post uploaded by hacked account of Kaushik Basu read, “Your account has been hacked by the Turkish cyber army Ayyildiz Tim.Your DM correspondence and important data have been captured I Love Pakistan.” The tweet was accompanied by an image of the ‘Turkish cyber army.’
Earlier on January 14, two photographs of Pakistan's flag and the neighbour country's President Mamnoon Hussain were posted from the Twitter account of India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Syed Akbaruddin’s hacked account. The pictures were posted during the wee hours of Sunday, and the "blue tick" that marks a verified account also disappeared at the time. The account was later restored by the social networking platform along with the blue tick and the questionable tweets were also removed.
