SCOOP: BJP sources confident Priyanka Gandhi's entry will impact U.P Gathbandhan more, claim Mayawati wants a weak Congress due to her PM aspirations

A day after Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was inducted into the Congress party as the general-secretary for Uttar Pradesh East by the party president and her brother Rahul Gandhi. top BJP sources have told Republic TV that the ruling saffron party quite confident on contesting against the newly appointed member of the Opposition party. Speaking to Republic TV, top BJP sources said that the party is ready to fight against Priyanka Gandhi, the way they fought against former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. 

While the Congress assumes that Priyanka Gandhi's entry into the politics will work as a masterstroke in the northern state for the party weeks ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha polls, the top BJP sources have raised questions over Gandhi's appointment for the Uttar Pradesh east region, which also consists of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency Varanasi. Furthermore, the sources have also told Republic TV that the BJP party is confident get the benefit from the three-way battle in Uttar Pradesh - between BJP-led NDA, Congress-led UPA and the newly formed alliance of Mayawati's BSP and Akhilesh Yadav's SP.

Top BJP sources also told that the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena is going to be in alliance with the saffron party not only at the state-level from Maharashtra but also at the Centre. Notably, the BJP appears to be quite content with the entry of Priyanka Gandhi in politics, as per the statements by top BJP sources. 

Moreover, talking about the newly-formed SP-BSP alliance in Uttar Pradesh, the top BJP sources also revealed that Priyanka's entry into U.P politics is likely to hit hard on the gathbandhan. Owing to this, BSP chief Mayawati, who is optimistic for the Prime Minister's post, is willing to take the 'weak' Congress party under its umbrella.

The BJP sources also spoke of an important role to be played by Robert Vadra, husband of Priyanka Gandhi in her political campaigning. As per inputs received by sources on Wednesday, Priyanka Gandhi may actually contest elections from her mother Sonia Gandhi's Lok Sabha constituency of Rae Bareli.

Amid the resort politics in Karnataka, the inputs from top BJP sources also suggest that the party is aiming to form government in the state, which is currently run by JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy.
