Andhra Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will on Friday visit the national capital. Ahead of his trip, the TDP Chief called for his MPs to intensify the protests against the government with a view to granting special status to the state.
For a few days now, TDP has been continuously protesting against the PM Narendra Modi government both inside and outside Parliament. The government has allocated Rs 1,800 crore for the southern state in the Budget. The TDP, which is the BJP's biggest ally in the south, has repeatedly claimed that they are "disappointed" that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's budget did not address the state's needs.
TDP leader Rammohan Naidu told Republic TV,
‘We had expected Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to give a positive response towards our protest and the state of Andhra Pradesh. We have been protesting and putting forward our demands. We have said that there are 19 concerns regarding the state of Andhra Pradesh and the bifurcation act which needs to clear-cut clarification from the Central Government.’
Earlier on Thursday, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley assured agitating members from Andhra Pradesh that the Centre is looking at all issues concerning the state sympathetically and some decision on a special package and revenue deficit will be worked out in the next couple of days.
On February 8, TDP MP Jayadev Galla claimed that the amount to Andhra Pradesh in Union Budget 2018 was less than what Baahubali collected at the box office. The SS Rajamouli film, ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion,’ is said to have earned over Rs 2,000 crore worldwide.
He reportedly said, ‘Rs 1,800 crore is what the government gave specifically to Andhra Pradesh in Budget and Baahubali’s collection is more than that.We received less than what a movie has collected. If they treat their allies like this, then many people will not want to be their allies in future.’
