The drama in the already tensed Karnataka political landscape has notched up as two Congress MLAs are yet to arrive in the state's assembly to attend the oath taking ceremony. The no-show by Congress MLAs Anand Singh and Pratap Gowda Patil has put the grand old party on a spot

As per reports,  the two missing MLAs have stayed back at the Taj West End, and are set to abstain from voting. Furthermore, Singh is reported to have joined the BJP, after he skipped the Congress legislative meet and went to New Delhi, sources said.

He was the tourism minister in the BJP government between 2008 to 2013. Earlier this year, he decided to leave the party, citing "there was no place for secular principles there". Soon after he joined Congress, and won the seat from Hosapete.

As for Pratap Patil, he was also with Yeddyurappa during his stay in power from 2008 to 2013. After the new government was formed, Patil joined Congress, and won the 2018 Karntaka assembly election from Maski constituency.

Ever since the election results were announced in Karnataka, there has been utter chaos. The Congress, which only got 78 seats, decided to go into a post-poll alliance with JD(S), who had 38 seats to stake claim to form government in the state.

The state Governor though, invited  BJP and B S Yeddyurappa to form the government, given they were the single largest party with 104.

This matter went into the Supreme Court, as Congress protested against the swearing-in of Yeddyurappa as the Chief Minister. A three bench judge of SC heard the matter in the early hours of Thursday, and declared the swearing-in to go ahead.

The SC though, ordered the BJP, represented by Attorney General KK Venugopal and Mukul Rohatgi, to prove their majority in assembly through 'vote of hands'.

The matter worsened after KG Bopaiah was announced as the pro tem speaker on Friday for the 'vote of hands' in the assembly. The Congress challenged this decision, and the matter was taken to the SC.

Earlier on Saturday, the SC ruled that KG Bopaiah will remain the pro-tem speaker, and the floor-test will be shown live on television in order to maintain transparency.
