Following allegations by the family of Pradyuman Thakur regarding a Haryana MLA and Minister in the Manohar Lal Khattar government attempting to influence them against seeking transfer of the case to the CBI, Republic TV confronted the minister in question.
In reply to Republic TV's questions, Rao Narbir Singh said that he visited the Thakurs' home for the first time in the days following Pradyuman's murder on September 8. It was then that the Thakurs first requested that the probe be transferred to the CBI.
To that, Singh replied:
"No government marks a CBI inquiry so quickly; let the local authorities probe the matter and if you're not satisfied, in 4-5 days I'll return and we'll transfer to the CBI."
Narbir then spoke about how the case came to be transferred to the CBI and refuted the Thakurs' allegations that he tried to influence them against the transfer, calling it a "miscommunication".
