A day after the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted bail to Vikas Barala, son of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subhash Barala, in connection with the Varnika Kundu stalking case, Vikas released a video statement on Saturday asserting that he is innocent. In the video, he says that the case was fabricated against him to tarnish the image of his father.
In his statement, he says that he is the real victim in the case.
“In last 5 months, no one tried to know my side of the story. My father is the state president of one of the political parties and many people tried to target me in an attempt to tarnish my father’s image,” he says in the video.
Barala also expressed the anguish his family had to go because of the case. He further says that there is no case against him in the court pertaining to molestation.
“There are no charges of eve-teasing or molestation against me either in the FIR or in the court. These are all rumours," he said
Meanwhile, while reacting to the video statement, Varnika Kundu said that she and her family were expecting something like this as they knew that Vikas would do anything to defend himself.
“His statement is a blatant lie. It’s not difficult for him to lie. But we have faith in the judicial system. His statement will not affect the proceeding of the case,” she said.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday granted bail to Vikas Barala, son of Haryana Bharatiya Janata Party President Subhash Barala, in connection with the Varnika Kundu stalking case.
Earlier, the court had ordered the Chandigarh Police to provide information on call details of Barala, son and his friend Ashish Kumar.
Barala has been booked on charges of stalking and attempting to kidnap senior IAS officer's daughter Varnika Kundu.
The incident, which took place on August 4, created a ruckus across the country, when Kundu accused Vikas and his friend Kumar of following her car in the middle of the night in Chandigarh.
