Akshay Kumar's Toilet: Ek Prem Katha has opened much lower than Shah Rukh Khan's Jab Harry Met Sejal. Day 1 usually defines an actor's pull at the box office, particularly their stardom, and here Shah Rukh is a clear winner. The first-day collection of Akshay Kumar starrer opened at Rs. 13 crore net, while the Shah Rukh Khan starrer raked in Rs. 15.50 crores. According to producer figures, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha has garnered Rs. 13.10 crore and Jab Harry met Sejal minted Rs. 15.25 crore on respective opening days. Earlier this year, Raees had opened at nearly Rs. 21 crores despite clashing with a major film like Kaabil. Tubelight too opened at Rs. 21 crores as per reports. The figures clearly showcase the box office clout that Khans manage.
Apart from 'Baahubali' that was dubbed in Hindi, Raees remains the highest grossing Hindi Film of 2017 with lifetime collections of 128.77 crore. Trade analysts are uncertain that Toilet: Ek Prem Katha would surpass this trend given it's below par opening. Many were hopeful that Toilet: Ek Prem Katha would finally be the first Akshay Kumar film that will take him across the Rs. 20 crore first-day barrier.
This keeps Akshay's Friday range bound as he hasn't been able to break this shackle of Rs. 10-14 crores in a long while despite the content of the films supporting him.
