Kings XI Punjab opener KL Rahul has issued a warning to other teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 to be wary of the power-hitter West Indian cricketer Chris Gayle as he is back in form.
Gayle played IPL 2018’s first match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday and scored his second fastest IPL fifty in 22 balls, and guided KXIP to post a total of 197 for sevenin Mohali. KXIP ended up with a nail-biting four-run win over CSK.
"It is amazing news for our team and bad news for the other teams that Chris Gayle is hitting the ball well. We all know he is a player who can win games single handedly and demolish attacks on his day and that's what he did today. We want him and we expect him to continue this form forward," said KL Rahul at the post-match press conference.
Gayle had gone unsold in the auction twice before KXIP bought him for a base price of Rs 2 crore, the same amount they paid for Yuvraj Singh.
CSK head coach Stephen Fleming also said that Gayle had played well and that his knock made a huge difference.
CSK skipper MS Dhoni almost got his team over the line with a brilliant knock of 79 off 44 balls. Dhoni, battling back pain, took the match into the last over. However, his valiant effort did not prove to be enough as CSK ended at 193 for five.
CSK will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Friday, while KXIP will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Thursday.
