Is India bigger on the Moon than Asia is on Earth? And is The Indian Ocean bigger on Mars than the Pacific Ocean is on Earth? Here are the answers!

India is the seventh-largest country in the world in terms of area, superseded only by a handful of behemoths. It is also the only country in the world that has an ocean named after it -- the Indian Ocean, which is the third-largest of the four global oceans.

India is the seventh-largest country in the world in terms of area, superseded only by a handful of behemoths. It is also the only country in the world that has an ocean named after it -- the Indian Ocean, which is the third-largest of the four global oceans.

While we've all got used to seeing India on a globe, unfortunately, due to cartographic distortion, it's hard to truly make out just how large India and the Indian Ocean are without an appropriate frame of reference.

However, a suitable frame of reference now exists! To be specific, how big would India and the Indian Ocean be if they weren't on Earth, but were on the two heavenly bodies that we're most familiar with? Let's see.

India and the Indian Ocean on the Moon:

The Moon is the Moon! You'd think that it surely dwarfs India, which it does. However, if India were to be on the Moon, there's no doubt that it would be nothing short of a super-continent!

(India vs Moon)

India is 0.09 times the surface area of the Moon, which is the same as Asia's proportion to the size of the Earth!

(Asia vs Earth)

As for the Indian Ocean, it would completely dwarf the Moon and is almost 1.9 times bigger than the latter.

(Indian Ocean vs Moon)

India and the Indian Ocean on Mars:

On Mars, India is still twice as big (relatively) as it would be on the Earth.

(India vs Mars)

(India vs Earth)

The Indian Ocean, however, fills up almost half of Mars' area!

(Indian Ocean vs Mars)

That's bigger than the Pacific Ocean is on Earth!

(Pacific Ocean vs Earth)

So that's how big India and the Indian Ocean are! (Or how small the Moon and Mars are in comparison to the Earth!)
