To celebrate the 28th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope, NASA has released an extraordinary image of a cosmic landscape!

In the image, NASA says, is a star that is 200,000 times brighter than our own Sun! It is a monster young star, the American space agency says, adding that it is blasting powerful ultraviolet radiation and stellar winds.

NASA's description states that the star's radiation has carved out a fantasy landscape of ridges, cavities and mountains of gas and dust.

The image itself is a riot of colour, with the star, located in the brightest central area, partially obscured by titanic gas clouds that are light-years long.

There are also other stars, bright and dim, scattered across the myriad blue, green, orange and violet hues.

Here's the image:

The Hubble space telescope was launched on April 24, 1990, aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery.

Its successor, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is set to be launched in May 2020.
