Odisha

Thane

COVID-19 tally in Thane district of Maharashtra has gone up to 2,53,627 with the addition of 260 new cases of the viral infection.

As many as 4,816 healthcare workers were administered COVID-19 vaccine shots in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday, taking the total number of those inoculated so far to over 27,000, a senior health official said. The target for Saturday was 5,974. There was 80.6 per cent coverage, Special Secretary (Health) Nipun Jindal said.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands have not reported any coronavirus case for nthe last five days notwithstanding a steady inflow of tourists into the archipelago. The Union Territory has not reported any new COVID-19 case since Tuesday.

Cinema halls across the country will be permitted to operate at 100 per cent capacity from February 1 in adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar announced on Sunday.

The Union Health Secretary reviewed the status of COVID vaccination with Health Secretaries and NHM MDs of States and UTs, through a video conference today. It was pointed that there is a huge scope for improvement in number of average vaccinations per session. The importance of timely data reconciliation was also emphasized upon during the detailed review meeting. As the vaccination drive has substantially stabilized in the past two weeks, States/UTs were strongly urged to reconcile the arrear data on CoWIN app. 

The cumulative number of healthcare workers vaccinated against COVID-19 as of 7 pm on Saturday is 37,06,157 as per the provisional report. A total of 68,830 sessions have been held so far. On January 30, 2,06,130 beneficiaries were vaccinated in 5,143 sessions till 7 pm.

Over 35 lakh beneficiaries have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in the country till now with 5,70,000 vaccinations conducted in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said on Saturday. Of the 35,00,027 beneficiaries, the highest number of 4,63,793 people were vaccinated in Uttar Pradesh, followed by 3,24,973 in Rajasthan, 3,07,891 in Karnataka and 2,61,320 in Maharashtra. In a statement, the ministry said in the last 24 hours, 5,71,974 people were vaccinated across 10,809 sessions, while a total of 63,687 sessions have been conducted so far.

Odisha's COVID-19 tally mounted to 3,34,958 on Saturday as 108 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said. The state's coronavirus death toll remained unchanged at 1,906 as no fresh fatality was reported in the last five days, he said. Sixty-three new cases were reported in quarantine centres and 45 infections were detected during contact tracing, the official said. 

Three more persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram, taking the coronavirus caseload in the state to 4,366, an official said on Saturday. Two fresh cases were reported from Aizawl district, while one case was reported from Hnahthial district, he said. A couple was diagnosed with COVID-19 at a private hospital here through Rapid Antigen Test, while an employee of a construction company, who returned from Jharkhand, was detected through TrueNat test, he said. 

Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally mounted to 1,18,602 as 45 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said on Saturday. The COVID-19 death toll rose to 1,070 as one more person succumbed to the infection in the last 24-hours, he said. Ranchi district reported the highest number of new cases at 33, followed by two cases each in East Singhbhum, Dhanbad, Gumla and Sahibganj, the official said. 

Gujarat

In the last 24 hours, Gujarat recorded 335 new COVID-19 cases and one death. This has propelled the state's novel coronavirus tally to 2,60,901 while the death toll stands at 4385. 

Kerala

Kerala's COVID-19 tally swelled to 9,17,360 cases after 6268 persons tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Friday. On the other hand, 6398 patients recovered in the day.

A total of 33,68,734 beneficiaries have been vaccinated through 62,939 sessions held across the country till 7 pm on Friday. This includes 4,40,681 persons who were inoculated in the day as per a provisional report.

The Karnataka government appealed to the Centre to treat teachers as frontline workers and include them in the COVID-19 vaccination drive for the priority sector.

A man died hours after being administered the coronavirus vaccine in UP's Pilibhit district. However, the Chief Medical Officer attributed it to heart ailment citing the autopsy report.

The Maharashtra government on Friday extended till February 28, 2021 the coronavirus-induced lockdown restrictions in the state. A circular to this effect was issued by the state government. "The state is threatened with the spread of COVID-19 virus and the government feels the need to take emergency measures," the circular said. The government's guidelines to operationalise 'Mission Begin Again' for easing of restrictions and phase- wise opening will remain in force till February 28, it said. The activities already allowed and permitted from time-to-time shall continue, it added. Till Thursday night, there were 20,18,413 coronavirus positive cases in the state, where 50,944 people have succumbed to the infection.  

With the addition of 342 coronavirus positive cases, the infection count in the Thane district of Maharashtra has mounted to 2,53,070, an official said on Friday. These cases were reported on Thursday, he said. As the virus claimed the life of three patients, the death toll in the district rose to 6,143. The district's mortality rate is 2.43 per cent, he added. 

Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally rose to 1,18,557 on Friday as 62 more people tested positive for the infection, while three fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 1,069, a health official said. Ranchi district reported the highest number of new cases at 43, followed by East Singhbhum (seven) and Koderma and Gumla (two each), he said.

Over 25 lakh vaccine doses have been administered so far, as per data available till 2 pm on Thursday. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan mentioned that the number of active cases is declining; there are 1,75,000 active cases in the country as of now - a steady and declining trend is being exhibited. Two states still have 40,000 or more active cases - Kerala with 72,000 active cases and Maharashtra with 44,000 active cases. Moreover, he revealed that India was the fastest to reach the first 1 million vaccination mark. India achieved this within 6 days, US did this in 10 days, Spain in 12 days, Israel in 14 days, the UK in 18 days, Italy in 19 days, Germany in 20 days and the UAE in 27 days.

A total of 28,47,608 beneficiaries vaccinated till 7 pm on Thursday, the Union Health Ministry revealed.

MEA official spokesperson Anurag Srivastava revealed that India has gifted over 55 lakh doses of vaccines to neighbouring countries and extended neighborhood from January 20-1.5 lakh to Bhutan, 1 lakh to Maldives, Mauritius and Bahrain, 10 lakhs to Nepal, 20 lakhs to Bangladesh, 15 lakhs to Myanmar, 50,000 to Seychelles, 5 lakh to Sri Lanka on request. He added that India has planned to gift further quantities of 1 lakh doses to Oman, 5 lakh doses to CARICOM countries, 2 lakhs to Nicaragua and 2 lakh doses to Pacific Island states over the next few days. He also mentioned that commercial exports took place to Brazil, Morocco and Bangladesh. According to him, further supplies on a commercial basis likely to take place to Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Canada, Mongolia and other countries. Moreover, India will supply 1 crore doses to Africa, 10 lakh to UN Healthworkers under the Gavi Covax facility.

At least 61 per cent of beneficiaries have taken the COVID-19 vaccine shot during the immunisation drive in Maharashtra's Aurangabad district so far, an official said on Thursday. Of the targeted 8,800 people, 5,327 have been administered the vaccine in the seven days of the vaccination drive that began on January 16, the official said. As many as 1,206 beneficiaries were inoculated on Wednesday, he said.

Puducherry clocked 39 fresh cases of COVID-19 and one related death on Thursday, taking the aggregate to 38,973. A 74 year-old person hailing from Karaikal succumbed to the viral infection. The patient, who died of severe COVID-19 pneumonia and ARDS had co-morbidities of diabetes and severe hypertension. The new cases of infection spread over Puducherry 21, Karaikal 5, Yanam 2 and Mahe 11 were identified at the end of examination of 2,772 samples, Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said. 

The COVID-19 count in Thane district of Maharashtra reached 2,52,723 with 260 new cases, while two more fatalities pushed the death toll to 6,140, an official said on Thursday. The 260 fresh cases were reported on Wednesday, he said. So far, 2,43,291 patients have recuperated from the infection, which improved the recovery rate to 96.27 per cent. There are 3,292 active cases in the district at present, the official said.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands did not record a single fresh COVID-19 case in the last two days, a health department official said on Thursday. The coronavirus tally in the Union Territory remained at 4,994, while 62 people have so far died due to the contagion, he said. "No fresh COVID-19 case was reported for the second day in a row on Wednesday," the official said.

Gujarat reported 353 new COVID-19 cases, the tally rose to 2,60,220; the toll went up to 4,382 as one dies.

Maharashtra

Maharashtra reported 2,171 new COVID-19 cases; tally rose to 20,15,524; toll up to 50,894 as 32 die. 

In the wake of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Kerala, a review meeting chaired by Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan decided to impose tight restrictions and deploy police to monitor compliance with the COVID-19 protocol. Restrictions will be more stringent on the containment zones. The Chief Minister said in the meeting that the government is working to reduce the spread of the disease by mid-February. 

23,28,779 beneficiaries have been vaccinated for COVID-19 till 6 pm on Wednesday across the country, including 2,99,299 people vaccinated in the day. A total of 16 hospitalizations and 9 deaths have been reported so far. None of these deaths has been causally linked with COVID-19 vaccination. 

Twenty four fresh cases of coronavirus were reported on Wednesday in Puducherry, raising the total infection count to 38,934. An 87-year-old person hailing from Sooramangalam village in Puducherry region died of the infection, taking the toll to 646.

The new cases were identified after examination of 1,979 samples in the last 24 hours. While Puducherry saw 21 new cases, Mahe recorded three. Karaikal and Yanam regions did not register any new case of infection, Director of Health and Family Welfare Department S Mohan Kumar said in a release.

The COVID-19 aggregate stood at 38,934 while there were 282 active cases and as many as 38,006 patients recovered and were discharged so far.

Telangana registered 147 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the total caseload to past 2.93 lakh while one related fatality pushed the toll to 1,593.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 32, followed by Karimnagar (12) and Karimnagar and Sangareddy with 9 each, a government bulletin said on Wednesday providing details as of 8 pm on January 26.

The total number of cases stood at 2,93,737 while recoveries were at 2,89,325. As many as 2,819 patients are under treatment and 16,486 samples were tested on Tuesday. Cumulatively, over 77.28 lakh samples have been tested. The samples tested per million population was over 2.07 lakh, the bulletin said.

The case fatality rate in the state was 0.54 per cent, while it was 1.4 per cent at the national level. The recovery rate in Telangana was 98.49 per cent, while it was 96.9 per cent in the country.

The COVID-19 caseload in Arunachal Pradesh rose to 16,821 as one more person has tested positive for the disease, a health department official said on Wednesday. The fresh case was reported from the Capital Complex Region and detected through RT-PCR test, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

Two more persons were cured of the disease on Tuesday, taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 16,751, he said. The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state is currently at 99.58 per cent. Altogether 7,087 health workers have been vaccinated so far, State Immunisation Officer (SIO) Dr Dimong Padung said.

Seven cases of adverse event following immunisation (AEFI) have been reported, the official said. The health department has been conducting the inoculation drive on four days a week - Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The state has received 32,000 doses of Covishield vaccine from the Centre till now, Padung said. Arunachal Pradesh now has 14 active cases, while 56 people have succumbed to the infection. The state has so far conducted 3,90,552 sample tests, including 178 on Tuesday, and the positivity rate currently stands at 0.08 per cent.

Three more persons, including a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram, taking the tally in the state to 4,359, an official said on Wednesday. All the fresh cases were detected through RT-PCR tests at Zoram Medical College here, he said. Two of the three new patients have travel history, the official said.

Mizoram now has 47 active cases, while 4,303 people have recovered from the disease and nine died. The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state currently stands at 98.72 per cent. Altogether 3,979 health workers have received the shots of COVID vaccine in the northeastern state. The state has so far tested 2,03,259 samples for COVID-19, including 674 on Tuesday, the official added.
 

The COVID-19 case count in Thane district of Maharashtra has gone up to 2,52,463 with the detection of 255 new cases, an official said on Wednesday. The viral infection also claimed the lives of five more people, taking the death toll in the district to 6,127.

Currently, the COVID-19 death rate in the district is 2.43 per cent, the official said. So far, 2,42,881 patients have recuperated from the infection, improving the recovery rate to 96.20 per cent. There are 3,455 active COVID-19 cases in the district at present, the official said.

In neighbouring Palghar district, the COVID-19 case count has gone up to 45,068, while the death toll stands at 1,196, an official from the district administration said.

India's COVID-19 tally mounted to 1,06,89,527 with 12,689 new cases in a day, while 1,03,59,305 people have recuperated from the infection so far pushing the national recovery rate to 96.91 per cent on Wednesday, according to the Union Health Ministry's data. With 137 more fatalities, the death toll reached 1,53,724, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.44%. There are 1,76,498 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprise 1.65 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

A total of 20,29,424 beneficiaries have been vaccinated in India till 7 pm on Wednesday through 36,572 sessions.

Telangana recorded 148 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the total caseload to 2,93,401, while the death toll rose to 1,590 with one more fatality, the state government said on Monday. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 35, followed by Rangareddy and Karimnagar districts with 11 and 10 respectively, it said in a bulletin, providing details as of 8 PM on January 24. 

Puducherry added 18 new coronavirus cases taking the overall tally to 38,878 while no fresh fatality was reported from the union territory during the last 24 hours, a top Health department official said on Monday. No fresh fatality was reported from any of the four regions-Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam, Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release. 

An Army man tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, taking the tally in the northeastern state to 16,819, a senior health department official said on Monday. The single case was detected from Dahung military camp in West Kameng district through RT-PCR test and the patient was asymptomatic, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

Delhi: 28,000 samples were collected in Delhi's fifth serosurvey. As per the results, over 60% of samples collected in a district showed antibodies; over 50% samples in rest of the districts had antibodies against COVID-19.

The union territory of Puducherry logged 30 new coronavirus cases during the last 24, taking the overall tally to 38,860, a top Health department official said on Sunday. An 87-year old patient succumbed to the infection pushing up the toll to 645, Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release.

India took only 6 days to administer one million COVID-19 vaccine doses, a count which is higher than that of countries like the US and the UK, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday as the number of beneficiaries who have received the anti-coronavirus shots inched close to 16 lakh. The UK took 18 days whereas the US took 10 days to reach the one million mark, the ministry said.

Telangana recorded 197 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the total positives to over 2.93 lakh while one fatality pushed the toll to 1,589, the state government said on Sunday. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 32, followed by Karimnagar (13) and Medchal Malkajgiri and Rangareddy with 12 each, it said in a bulletin, providing details as of 8 PM on January 23. 

The COVID-19 tally in Thane district of Maharashtra has reached 2,51,641 with the addition of 266 new cases, an official said on Sunday. The virus has claimed lives of five more persons, raising the death toll in the district rose to 6,109, he said. The COVID-19 mortality rate in the district stands at 2.43 per cent, he said. 

Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally mounted to 1,18,232 as 78 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said on Sunday. The state's coronavirus death toll rose to 1,061 as one more person succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, he said.

As India achieves the fastest COVID-19 vaccine rollout within a week, Union Health Ministry on Saturday stated that as of date 6 people have died post-vaccination, though no deaths have been linked to it. While a total of 11 hospitalizations have been reported post-vaccination - one in the past 24 hours, the latest fatality post-vaccination is a 56-year-old woman from Gurugram. As of date, 15,37,190 beneficiaries have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in 27,776 sessions.

The Union Additional Health Secretary Manohar Agnani informed that in addition to 12 states currently using COVAXIN, 7 new states would be administering COVAXIN from next week. So apart from Telangana, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Maharashtra, Bihar, Karnataka, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana, seven other states namely - Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and West Bengal will begin vaccination with COVAXIN next week. At least 77.2 per cent health workers took the COVID-19 shots in Maharashtra's Aurangabad district on the fourth day of the vaccination drive, a considerable rise from the previous sessions, an official said on Saturday. As many as 772 health workers out of the day's target of 1,000 were administered the vaccine at 10 centres in the district on Friday, the official said. While 64.7 per cent health workers were vaccinated on the first day of the drive on January 16, the numbers declined to 33.5 per cent on the second day, he said.

Nearly 14 lakh beneficiaries have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in the country, including 3,47,058 in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said on Saturday. According to data released by the ministry, the highest number of 1,84,699 vaccinations in the country has been reported from Karnataka, followed by Andhra Pradesh (1,33,298), Odisha (1,30,007) and Uttar Pradesh (1,23,761). As many as 1,10,031 beneficiaries were inoculated in Telangana, 74,960 in Maharashtra, 63,620 in Bihar, 62,142 in Haryana, 47,293 in Kerala and 38,278 in Madhya Pradesh, according to the data. In a statement, the ministry said in the last 24 hours, 3,47,058 people were vaccinated in 6,241 sessions and 24,408 such sessions have been conducted across the country so far.

One more person tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, taking the tally in the northeastern state to 16,817, a senior health department official said on Saturday. The single case was detected from Lepa Rada district through rapid antigen test and the patient was asymptomatic, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said. Two more people recuperated from COVID-19, taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 16,724, he said. The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state now is 99.44 per cent while the fatality ratio is 0.33 per cent, the official said, adding that the positivity rate in the state currently stands at 0.22 per cent.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands reported only one fresh COVID-19 case in the last 24 hours, pushing the tally in the union territory to 4,992, a health department official said on Saturday. Three more persons were cured of the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries in the archipelago to 4,907, the official said.

Serum Institute of India chief Adar Poonawala says, "This was a new building for additional products to be made in the future. The bulk production line was being installed which is why probably why this incident happened. No actual vaccine was being made there at the time - the loss is for the future, which will be made up through other facilities. Loss of the damages is around Rs 1000 crores. Rotavirus vaccine, BCG, many products will be affected. We will share the damages report soon. Supplies won't be affected."

CM Thackeray says, "Probe ongoing into foul play," to which Poonawalla concurred.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday interacted with COVID-19 vaccine beneficiaries in Varanasi via-video-conferencing where he spoke about how the year 2021 had started 'auspiciously' with India commencing the world's largest vaccination drive. "The year 2021 has started with very auspicious resolutions. It is said of Kashi that here auspiciousness turns into Siddhi. The result of this accomplishment is that today the world's largest vaccination campaign is going on in our country," said PM Modi.

"The biggest vaccination program in the world is going on in our country. Today, the nation has the willpower to manufacture its own vaccine - not one but two Made in India vaccines. Vaccines are reaching every corner of the country. India is absolutely self-reliant in this regard," said PM Modi. 

The Prime Minister also dismissed politics around the vaccine saying that the Centre had come to the decision regarding the two vaccines based on the scientists' hard work.

"Our scientists work hard to make any vaccine, there is a scientific process in it. Making a decision about a vaccine is not political, we had decided that we will do as scientists say. When doctors and health workers give a clean chit to the vaccine, it sends a very strong message among people about the efficacy of the shots," he said. Congratulating the medical staff and healthcare workers in the city, PM shared that about 20,000 health professionals were all set to be vaccinated across 15 vaccination centres in the first phase. 

Nearly 10.5 lakh beneficiaries have received anti-coronavirus shots under the countrywide COVID-19 vaccination exercise as on date, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday. In a span of 24 hours, 2,37,050 people were vaccinated across 4,049 sessions. A total of 18,167 sessions have been conducted so far. On the testing front too, India continues to register growing numbers, the ministry said.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands did not record a single fresh COVID-19 case in the last 24 hours, a health department official said on Friday. The coronavirus tally in the union territory remained at 4,991, while a total of 62 people have died so far due to the contagion, he said. 

Puducherry added 22 new COVID-19 cases during the last 24 hours while no fresh fatality was reported in the union territory, a top Health department official said on Friday. The 22 new infections were identified at the end of the examination of 3,342 samples taking the overall tally to 38,794, Director of Department of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said. 

With the addition of 286 new coronavirus cases, the infection count in Thane district of Maharashtra rose to 2,50,693, an official said on Friday. The virus claimed the lives of seven more persons, pushing the death toll in the district to 6,074,, he said. The COVID-19 mortality rate stood at 2.42 per cent, he added. So far, 2,40,879 patients have recuperated from the infection, showing a recovery rate of 96.08 per cent, the official said.

Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally mounted to 1,18,079 as 67 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said on Friday. The state's coronavirus death toll rose to 1,058 as one more person succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, he said.

As per the Union Health Ministry, the total number of persons found positive with UK strain of COVID-19 is 145. 

A consignment of doses of the COVID-19 vaccine COVISHIELD, of the Serum Institute of India, arrived at the Kathmandu airport, under the Vaccine Maitri program of the Government of India. 

Days after India launched its largest COVID vaccination drive, sources said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Ministers of the states and UTs will be vaccinated in the second round. This comes amid various questions raised by Congress and other Opposition parties regarding the safety of the COVID vaccines and demands that ministers of ruling BJP should take it first so as to put an end to all rumours which the Opposition leaders have had a major role in creating.

PM Modi had, while discussing the roll-out plan with the CMs said that the political party members should take the jab later and first preference was given to healthcare workers. "This is my personal suggestion and no one should take it otherwise. We public representatives are not part of it," the PM had said.

After inspecting the additional 5,08,500 vaccine doses which arrived at the State Drug Store in Chennai on Wednesday, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Dr C Vijayabaskar while speaking to media announced that he would be taking a shot of the COVID-19 vaccine on Friday ay Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital on Friday. 

The Union Territory of Puducherry logged 35 new coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours taking the overall tally to 38,772, a top Health department official said on Thursday. No fresh fatality was reported from any of the four regions-Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam-, Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release. The death toll remained at 643, he added. 

Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally rose to 1,18,012 on Thursday as 125 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said. The state's coronavirus death toll remained unchanged at 1,057 as no fresh fatality was reported, he said. Ranchi district reported the highest number of new cases at 65, followed by East Singhbhum (17) and Palamu and Simdega (seven each), the official said. 

Mizoram's COVID-19 tally rose to 4,346 on Thursday as 12 more people, including three CRPF personnel, tested positive for the infection, a health official said. Aizawl district reported nine new cases, while Serchhip, Kolasib and Lawngtlai districts registered one fresh infection each, he said.

A total of 7,86,842 beneficiaries have been vaccinated till 6 pm on Wednesday as per the provisional reports. No case of severe/serious AEFI has been attributed to vaccination to date. 

Union Health Ministry Additional Secretary Manohar Agnani revealed that 4 deaths have been reported- UP (1), Karnataka (2) & Telangana (1). He stated that in UP, post mortem confirms cardiopulmonary disease which is not related to vaccination. Postmortem is suggestive of myocardial infarction in the case of Bellary and it is also not related to vaccination, he added. Moreover, he said that the case of Karnataka's Shivamogga is a suspected case of MI and is also not related to vaccination. On the other hand, post mortem is underway in the case of in the case of Nirmal, Telangana. 

Kerala

Nepal Health Minister Hridayesh Tripathi revealed that India is providing one million dosages of the COVID-19 vaccine to Nepal. The vaccine will land in Kathmandu on Thursday. 

An AN-32 aircraft arrived in Paro valley, ferrying Bhutan's first consignment of COVID-19 vaccine from India. Health Minister Dechen Wangmo received the vaccines from Indian Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj in presence of PM Dr. Lotay Tshering. 

The COVID-19 caseload of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 4,989 as one more person tested positive for the disease in the Union Territory, a health department official said on Wednesday. The fresh case was detected during contact tracing, he said. Altogether 645 people have been vaccinated in the Union Territory since the launch of the inoculation programme on January 16, the official said. 

Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally rose to 1,17,887 as 101 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said on Wednesday. The state's coronavirus death toll rose to 1,057 after three more patients succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, he said. Ranchi district registered the highest number of fresh cases at 53, followed by Dhanbad (16) and Bokaro (9). Jharkhand now has 1,147 active COVID-19 cases, while 1,15,683 people have been cured of the disease so far, the official said.

Telangana saw 267 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the total caseload to over 2.92 lakh while two more fatalities pushed the toll to 1,583. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 55, followed by Karimnagar and Medchal Malkajgiri with 20 and 18 respectively, a government bulletin said on Wednesday providing details as of 8 pm on January 19. 

Five more people, including two minors, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram, pushing the tally in the northeastern state to 4,334, an official said on Wednesday. Three fresh cases were reported from Aizawl district and two from Lunglei and Siaha. Three new patients have travel history and it is yet to be ascertained how the remaining two have contracted the infection, the state information and public relations department official said.

Karnataka

Karnataka reported 645 new COVID-19 cases, 807 discharges, and 6 deaths. Total cases: 9,33,077 Total discharges: 9,13,012 Death toll: 12,181 Active cases: 7,865.

West Bengal

West Bengal reported 412 new COVID-19 cases, 513 discharges, and 11 deaths, as per State Health Department. Total cases: 5,66,073 Total recoveries: 5,49,218 Active cases: 6,781 Death toll: 10,074.

Jharkhand

Jharkhand reported 101 new COVID-19 cases, 141 recoveries and 3 deaths reported, as per State Health Department. Total cases: 1,17,887 Total recoveries: 1,15,683 Active cases: 1,147 Death toll: 1,057.

The Centre is supplying additional 92,500 doses of COVISHIELD vaccine to Uttarakhand that will reach Dehradun Airport on Wednesday morning.

Lakshadweep reported its first case of COVID on January 18. The person had come to Lakshadweep from Kochi on January 4. Initially, 31 primary contacts of the case were traced and quarantined of which 14 tested positive and were isolated. 56 contacts of positive cases were traced and quarantined. A Central multi-disciplinary team comprising of experts from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry; National Institute of Virology, Pune and Regional Office of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has been sent to Lakshadweep.

The Indian government will commence the supply of COVID-19 vaccines to Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Seychelles from January 20, 2021. In respect of Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Mauritius, the Centre is awaiting their confirmation of necessary regulatory clearances. PM Modi stressed that India is deeply honoured to be a long-trusted partner in meeting the healthcare needs of the global community. 

1. Who should not take the vaccine? 

COVAXIN advises the following people to not take the vaccine:

• Have any allergies, fever, bleeding disorder, or on blood thinner, is immunocompromised or on any medicine which affects the immune system
• Are pregnant, breastfeeding or received another COVID-19 vaccine

COVISHIELD advises the following people to not take the vaccine:

• Have a severe allergic reaction after a previous dose of the vaccine or have a severe allergic reaction to any ingredient of the vaccine. The vaccine contains (L-Histidine, L-Histidine hydrochloride monohydrate, Magnesium chloride hexahydrate, Polysorbate 80, Ethanol, Sucrose, Sodium chloride, Disodium edetate dihydrate (EDTA), Water for injection.)
• It also advises people to inform their vaccinator if they have any allergies, fever, bleeding disorder, or on blood thinner, is immunocompromised or on any medicine which affects the immune system, are pregnant, breastfeeding or received another COVID-19 vaccine.

2. What are the symptoms post-vaccination?

COVAXIN has the following symptoms: Injection site pean, swelling, redness; stiffness in upper arm, body ache, headache, fever, malaise, weakness, rashes, nausea and vomiting. A severe allergic reaction may occur which may display signs such as - difficulty in breathing, swelling in face or throat, fast heartbeat, rashes dizziness and weakness

COVISHIELD has the following symptoms between 2-14 days:  fever or chills; cough; shortness of breath; fatigue; muscle or body aches; headache; new loss of taste or smell; sore throat; congestion or runny nose; nausea or vomiting; diarrhoea

As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of persons found positive with UK strain of COVID-19 is 141. 

Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh reported 179 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, as per State Health Ministry. Total cases: 8,86,245 Total recoveries: 8,77,443 Death toll: 7,142 Active cases: 1,660.

Delhi

Delhi reported 231 new COVID-19 cases, 222 discharges, and 10 deaths in the last 24 hours, says Delhi Health Department. Total cases: 6,32,821 Active cases: 2,334 Total discharges: 6,19,723 Death toll: 10,764.

As per Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, 4,54,049 people have been vaccinated till now. He mentioned that  0.18% of adverse events happened following immunization and 0.002% of people were hospitalized following immunization, which is fairly low and the lowest so far in the world in the first three days. He added that only the states of Kerala and Maharashtra have more than 50,000 active cases.

Dr. VK Paul, Member, Niti Aayog explained that the concerns about adverse effects and serious problems, as of now, seem to be insignificant. Mentioning that the data shows that we are in a comfortable situation, he reassured the people that the two COVID-19 vaccines are safe: Calling upon an end to vaccine hesitancy should end, he stressed that we are not fulfilling our societal responsibility if a vaccine assigned to you is not being taken. 

Telangana registered 256 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the total positives to nearly 2.92 lakh while the toll surged to 1,581 with two more fatalities.

The total number of cases stood at 2,92,128 while recoveries were 2,86,542. The case fatality rate in the state was 0.54 percent, while it was 1.4 percent at the national level. The recovery rate in Telangana was 98.08 percent, while it was 96.6 percent in the country. 

Gujarat on Monday reported 495 fresh coronavirus positive cases, taking the count of infections to 2,56,367, the state health department said. With two more persons succumbing to the viral disease, both in Ahmedabad, the overall death toll in the state mounted to 4,367, it said.

At the same time, 700 patients were discharged after treatment during the day, taking the total number of recovered cases in Gujarat to 2,45,807. With this, the state's case recovery rate has improved further to 95.88 per cent, the department said in a release. Gujarat is now left with 6,193 active cases.
 

On Monday, January 18, 1,924 persons tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Maharashtra taking the state's COVID-19 tally to 19,92,683. At present, there are 50,680 active cases in the state. With 3,854 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 18,90,323. Mumbai continues to be a major novel coronavirus hotspot with 395 new cases recorded in the day. 

Until now, a total of 50,473 persons in the state have died owing to COVID-19. The recovery rate and fatality rate in Maharashtra stand at 94.86 percent, and 2.53 percent respectively. 

Delhi recorded 161 fresh COVID-19 cases, the lowest in over 8 months, and eight deaths on Monday while the positivity rate dipped to 0.32 percent, authorities said. The infection tally in the city rose to 6,32,590 and the death toll mounted to 10,754, they said.

This is the 15th time this month that the daily count of cases stood below the 500-mark, and the fourth consecutive day since January 15 when the figures have stood below the 300-mark. 6,19,501 patients have recovered, been discharged or migrated so far.
 

The COVID-19 tally of Arunachal Pradesh rose to 16,812 on Tuesday as one more person tested positive for the infection in the northeastern state, a health department official said.

The fresh case from East Siang district was detected through rapid antigen test, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

West Bengal's COVID-19 tally rose to 5,65,661 on Monday as 389 more people tested positive for the infection, while 10 fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 10,063, a health bulletin said.

After almost eight months, Kolkata reported only one fresh fatality. As many as 569 more people were cured of the disease, taking the recovery rate among the coronavirus patients in the state to 97 percent.

The state now has 6,893 active cases, while 5,48,705 people have been cured of the disease so far, it said.

Karnataka reported 435 fresh COVID-19 cases and nine deaths, taking the total infection count to 9,32,432 and toll to 12,175, the health department said on Monday.

The day also saw 973 patients getting discharged from hospitals after recovery. Of the 435 fresh cases reported today, Bengaluru Urban alone accounted for 193.

Cumulatively 9,32,432 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 12,175 deaths and 9,12,205 discharges, the health department said in its bulletin.
 

Nagaland's COVID-19 tally rose to 12,061 on Monday as three more people tested positive for the infection, Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said. Two new cases were reported in Dimapur district and one in Mokokchung, he said.

Four more people have been cured of the disease, taking the recovery rate among the COVID-19 patients in the state to 97.14 percent, the minister said.

The state now has 115 active coronavirus cases, while 11,717 people have been cured of the disease, 88 patients have succumbed to the infection, and 141 have migrated to other states, a health bulletin said.
 

 Madhya Pradesh's COVID-19 tally on Monday rose to 2,51,882 after the state recorded 304 fresh cases, a health department official said. With three more people succumbing to the viral infection, the overall death toll rose to 3,756, he said.

A total of 540 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the state's recovery count to 2,41,966, he said. The state now has 6,160 active cases, he said.

The COVID-19 tally in Tamil Nadu touched 8,31,323 with the addition of 551 new cases on Monday, while eight more deaths, including that of a 103-year-old man, pushed the toll to 12,272, the health department said.

Recoveries outnumbered new infections with 758 people getting discharged as the total number of those cured so far rose to 8,13,326, a bulletin said. The number of active cases continued its decline and stood at 5,725.
 

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 82 new cases of the coronavirus on Monday, bringing the infection tally to 1,23,425, while another death raised the toll to 1,922, officials said. Thirty-six of the fresh COVID-19 cases were from Jammu division and 46 from the Kashmir division, they said. 

The number of active cases dropped to 1,111 in the union territory, while 1,20,392 patients have recovered so far, the officials said. The new death was reported from the Jammu division, they said.
 

Meghalaya on Monday reported the lowest number of new COVID-19 cases in over eight months as three fresh infections pushed the state's caseload to 13,707, a senior health official said. Three more people have been cured of the disease, taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 13,415, he said. Meghalaya now has 148 active coronavirus cases, while 144 patients have succumbed to the infection so far.

Kerala recorded 3,346 COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the caseload to the 8.50 lakh mark as the toll mounted to 3480 with 17 more fatalities. As many as 3921 people have been cured, pushing the total recoveries to 7,79,097. Presently, 68,399 people are undergoing treatment for the infection, Health minister K K Shailaja said in a press release.

The total number of cases now is 8,50,597. In the last 24 hours, 33,093 samples were tested and the test positivity rate has touched 10.11 percent.So far, 89,54,140 samples have been sent for testing.

A seven-month low of 81 COVID-19 cases was reported in Andhra Pradesh, while 263 patients recovered from the infection and one succumbed in the state during the 24 hours ending 9 am on Monday. 

The state COVID-19 chart showed the caseload at 8,86,066 with 8,77,212 recoveries and 7,141 deaths.The active caseload is now 1,713, according to the bulletin.
 

Assam's COVID-19 tally rose to 2,16,864 on Monday as 33 more people tested positive for the infection, while two fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 1,075, a health bulletin said.

A total of 5,542 people have so far received COVID vaccines in the state, including 2,014 during the day.

The state now has 1,464 active coronavirus cases, while 2,12,975 patients have died and three have migrated to other states so far, it said.
 

The first COVID-19 case was reported in the Lakshadweep Islands on Monday, nearly an year after the outbreak of the pandemic in the country.

The man, belonging to the India Reserve Batallion, had left for Kavaratti by ship from Kochi on January 3 and tested positive on Monday, official sources said.

He is not a resident of the islands, they said. The islands had so far not reported a single positive COVID-19 case.

Bharat Biotech receives letter of comfort from Centre

As more and more countries seek India's assistance in their vaccination drive against Coronavirus, Bharat Biotech on Tuesday received a fresh letter of comfort from the Centre for another 4.5 million doses of its COVID-19 vaccine 'Covaxin'. According to sources, 8 lakh doses out of 4.5 million doses of Indian vaccine maker Bharat Biotech's Covaxin will be supplied to Mauritius, Philippines and Myanmar as a 'gesture of goodwill'. 

Sources said, "The company was given a fresh letter of comfort recently for supplying another 4.5 million doses of Covaxin. The doses will be dispatched as when the Ministry places orders with the company."

Earlier, after the government of India approved Bharat Biotech's Covaxin and (SII) Serum Institute of India's Covishielf, Bharat Biotech had received an order for 5.5 million doses. The India vaccine-manufacturer had shipped the first batch of its vaccine (each vial containing 20 doses) to Gannavaram (Vijaywada), Guwahati, Patna, Delhi, Kurukshetra, Bangalore, Pune, Bhubaneshwar, Jaipur, Chennai and Lucknow. Besides this, Bharat Biotech has also donated 1.65 million doses to the government of India. 

In the aftermath of at least 33 deaths allegedly from Pfizer’s mRNA COVID-19 vaccination, health authorities in Norway said that "no direct link" had been established between Pfizer-BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine and post-vaccination deaths in the country. The EU nation started the mass vaccination campaign on December 27, and post-immunisation, reports of deaths in the elderly and vulnerable citizens emerged which were being linked to the jabs. The medical director of the Norwegian Medicines Agency clarified in a statement that while the situation is alarming, only a ‘small exception’ has been noted in the side effects of the Pfizer vaccine that may have caused death. 

In an official release on its website, Statens Legemiddelverk, Norway’s medical agency said, "All reports of deaths after vaccination are carefully considered", adding that at least "33 deaths have been reported in connection with vaccination, and 13 of these have been assessed". The agency stressed that the common side effects may have contributed to a severe course in frail elderly people. "mRNA vaccines tend to cause side effects such as fever and nausea, which may have led to deaths in some weak and frail patients with co-morbidities", Sigurd Hortemo, chief physician at the Norwegian Medicines Agency said in the statement. 

An independent review panel has said that China and the World Health Organisation (WHO) could have acted faster to avert the ongoing crisis during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response in its second report said that there were signs early on in the pandemic for WHO to take rapid measures. The report said, "more timely and stronger warnings of the potential for human-to-human transmission could have been issued by both WHO and national and local authorities". The panel said that the preventive measures should have been applied immediately in all countries where the risk of potential spread was likely. The panel further added that further analysis will be undertaken to better understand why the current system to access national preparedness failed to predict actual performance, and what can be done to improve the system. 

A total of 11,280 health workers were vaccinated for COVID-19 in Rajasthan on Monday, which is 68.72 per cent of the day's target, according to a government spokesperson.  A total of 16,426 health workers were to be vaccinated for COVID-19 at 167 vaccination centres in 33 districts of the state. But till 6 pm, 11,288 health workers were vaccinated, which is 68.72 per cent against the target, he said.

There were 15 cases of AEFI (adverse event after vaccination) in the state, the spokesperson said.

The vaccination against COVID-19 began in the state with a nationwide campaign where 12,258 health workers were vaccinated on the first day.

The vaccination schedule is four days a week.

India's total COVID-19 recoveries have surpassed the active caseload by more than one crore, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday, terming it as a landmark achievement. The total number of recoveries has touched 1,02,11,342, while the active cases in the country stand at 2,08,012 today. "The gap between the two has progressively grown to touch 1,00,03,330. The total recovered cases are nearly 50 times the active cases in the country," the ministry underlined. 

Four MLAs in Kerala have tested positive for COVID-19 after participating in the ongoing session of the Assembly. The members representing Neyyattinkara, Kollam, Koyilandy and Peermedu--K Ansalan (CPI-M), K Dasan (CPI-M), Mukesh (CPI-M) and E S Bijimol (CPI)- respectively are the lawmakers who have tested positive, Assembly sources said. While Dasan and Alansar have been admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College hospital, Mukesh and Bijimol are under observation at their homes.

Arunachal Pradesh's COVID-19 tally mounted to 16,811 on Monday as three more persons tested positive for the infection, a senior official said. Two new cases were detected from Tawang and one from West Kameng district respectively, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said. 

The daily coronavirus infections fell below 14,000 for the second time this month taking India's COVID-19 caseload to 1,05,71,773, while 145 new fatalities were recorded, the lowest in around eight months, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.  

Telangana recorded 206 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total positives to nearly 2.92 lakh while two fatalities pushed the toll to 1,579, the state government said on Monday. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 45, followed by Karimnagar and Rangareddy with 17 and 16 respectively, it said in a bulletin, providing details as of 8 PM on January 17. 

The COVID-19 tally in Thane district of Maharashtra has gone up to 2,49,507 with the detection of 325 new cases of the infection, an official said on Monday. Apart from these new cases recorded on Sunday, one more person also succumbed to the viral infection, taking the death toll in the district to 6,053, he said.

Mizoram: 8 new cases

Mizoram on Sunday reported eight new COVID-19 cases, taking the state's tally to 4,322, an official said. Of the eight cases, seven were reported from Aizawl district and one from Kolasib district, he said. Six cases were confirmed at Zoram Medical College's RT-PCR laboratory and two were detected through Rapid Antigen Test from Aizawl and Kolasib district.

The Mizoram government has decided to allow reopening of schools for students of class 10 and 12 from January 22 and places of worship from February.

According to the new unlock guidelines issued on Saturday schools and hostels will reopen from January 22 for students of class 10 and 12.

The Maharashtra government on Saturday evening announced the suspension of the COVID-19 vaccination drive in the state till Monday owing to problems in the Co-Win app. The app has been created by the Centre for managing registration for the inoculation. A nationwide inoculation drive for coronavirus began on Saturday morning.

"Not just in Maharashtra, everywhere in the country this app created problems in the execution of vaccination drive. We have decided to suspend the vaccination for the next two days," state public health minister Rajesh Tope told PTI.

"On January 8, when a dry run was conducted, and again today I specifically pointed out problems with the Co-Win app and Union Minister Harsh Vardhan said he will look into it," the minister said.

The COVID-19 tally edged up to 2.91 lakh in Telangana with the addition of 299 fresh cases, the state government said on Sunday. Two more COVID-19 deaths pushed the toll to 1,577 in the state where the active cases stood at 4,191, a bulletin said Areas under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of fresh cases with 57 people testing positive, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri (26) and Karimnagar (24), the bulletin, providing details as of 8 pm on Saturday, said. 

Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally mounted to 1,17,599 as 119 more people tested positive for the infection, a health department official said on Sunday. The COVID-19 death toll rose to 1,050 as one more person succumbed to the infection in the last 24-hours, the official said. 

11 cases of mild AEFI (Adverse Event Following Immunization) were reported in Telangana on Saturday; a total of 3,962 beneficiaries vaccinated in the state.

The Kerala Health Minister revealed that 8,062 health workers received the COVID-19 vaccination on the first day. The highest number of health workers (857) received the vaccine in the Palakkad district. She added that the registration for the second phase of COVID-19 vaccination has also been completed in the state. 

An AIIMS security guard has developed an allergic reaction after receiving the COVID19 vaccination on Saturday. He is kept under observation of doctors at the hospital.

Assam's COVID-19 toll mounted to 1,066 with one more person succumbing to the virus, while 15 fresh cases pushed the tally to 2,16,777, the National Health Mission said in a bulletin. The number of new infections, the lowest since May 18, were detected out of 8,400 tests, which was also considerably lower than the daily figure due to the ongoing Bhogali Bihu festival in the state, it said late on Friday.

With the addition of 297 fresh coronavirus positive cases in the last 24 hours, the overall infection count in Thane district of Maharashtra mounted to 2,48,809, an official said on Saturday. The death toll in the district, which is part of the Mumbai Metropolitan region (MMR), rose to 6,049 with the viral disease claiming lives of six more persons, he said. Thane district's mortality rate stands at 2.43 per cent, the official added.

The first consignment of 36,000 COVID-19 vaccines has reached Punjab. The vaccine will be administered to registered beneficiaries at 156 vaccination centres. 

The Delhi government extended its order pertaining to 14-day quarantine for passengers arriving in Delhi from the United Kingdom till January 31. 

Himachal Pradesh Secretary Amitabh Avasthi stated that are 27 centres for vaccination in the state in the first phase which starts on January 16. He assured that there is no issue about the safety of the vaccine. Moreover, he added that 7,000 people will be vaccinated at the 27 centres on Saturday.

The Maharashtra government has received 9.63 lakh doses of Covishield and 20,000 doses of Covaxin till now. The government and private health workers will get vaccinated on priority in the first phase of vaccination. 

Ladakh received the first batch of the COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday morning. Director, Health, UT of Ladakh stated, "We've received 11,500 doses of vaccine for Leh and Kargil districts. The vaccination drive will be launched on 16th January; we will begin vaccination from 18th January at block headquarters."

PM Modi will launch the pan-India rollout of the COVID-19 vaccination drive on January 16 at 10:30 am via video conferencing. A total of 3006 session sites across all states/UTs will be virtually connected during the launch. Around 100 beneficiaries will be vaccinated at each session site on Saturday. 

MEA Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava revealed that there will not be any foreign head of state or government as the chief guest for India's Republic Day event due to the global COVID-19 situation. 

5,490 fresh COVID-19 cases and 4,337 recoveries were reported in Kerala. Total numbers of active and recoveries cases in the state are 66,503 and 7,61,154 respectively.

MoS MEA V Muraleedharan stated that the largest no. of COVID-19 cases were reported in Kerala on Wednesday. Alleging that the state government is not taking precautionary measures, he lamented its decision to open every sector in spite of the increasing number of cases. He urged the Vijayan-led government to be more cautious. 

The Delhi High Court has allowed the opening of spas in Delhi with appropriate safeguards. The court has also directed the spa owners to conduct the COVID-19 test of their staff every two weeks.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the rollout of India's COVID-19 vaccination programme on January 16, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday. He is likely to interact via video link with some healthcare workers from across the country who will be receiving the shots on the first day, according to sources. PM Modi is also likely to launch the Co-WIN (COVID Vaccine Intelligence Network) App, a digital platform created for real-time monitoring of COVID-19 vaccine delivery and distribution, they said.

Odisha's COVID-19 tally rose to 3,32,763 on Thursday as 222 more people tested positive for the infection, while one fresh fatality pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 1,896, a health official said. As many as 127 new cases were reported in quarantine centres, while 95 fresh infections were detected during contact tracing, he said. 

The COVID-19 tally in Maharashtra's Thane district has gone up to 2,48,170 with the detection of 413 new cases, an official said on Thursday. Besides these new cases reported on Wednesday, four more people also died of the viral infection, raising the COVID-19 toll in the district to 6,042, he said.

Telangana clocked 276 fresh cases of coronavirus, taking the total infection count to nearly 2.91 lakh while one fatality pushed the toll to 1,572. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 53, followed by Rangareddy and Medchal Malkajgiri with 23 and 18 respectively, a government bulletin said on Thursday providing details as of 8 pm on January 13. The total number of cases stood at 2,90,916 while recoveries were at 2,84,849.

Three more persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, pushing the tally in the Union Territory to 4,969, a health official said on Thursday. The fresh cases were detected during contact tracing, he said. The death toll remained at 62 as no new fatality due to the infection was reported in the last 24 hours.

As per sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to launch the mega vaccination drive virtually on January 16. PM Modi will also be launching the CoWIN application on the same day.

The Union Health Ministry stated that the initial procurement amount of 1.65 crore doses of COVISHIELD and COVAXIN vaccines have been allocated to all states/UTs in the proportion of the healthcare workers database. It maintained that there is no question of discrimination against any state in the allocation of vaccine doses. Assuring that the vaccine doses would be continuously replenished in the weeks to come, it noted that any apprehension being expressed on account of deficient supply is totally baseless and unfounded. 

The states have been advised to organize vaccination sessions taking into account 10% reserve/wastage doses and an average of 100 vaccinations/session/day. Therefore, the Union Health Ministry warned against any undue haste on the parts of the states to organize unreasonable numbers of vaccination per site per day. 

Chhattisgarh received the first batch of COVID-19 vaccine- 23,000 vials on Wednesday. The vaccine will be sent to 99 sites including 6 medical colleges where vaccination will be held in the first phase.

Maharashtra

The first batch of COVISHIELD vaccine from Serum Institute of India, Pune, arrived at Jammu airport from Mumbai airport via Srinagar. The vaccine containing 67500 doses, 6 boxes weighing 192 kg was received at 2.45 pm.

Kerala's first batch of COVID-19 vaccine arrived at Kochi. Ernakulam District Collector S Suhas stated that they have received 1.80 lakh doses out of which about 73,000 doses are for Ernakulam while the rest of the doses will be distributed to Palakkad, Thrissur, Idukki and Kottayam. 

According to Delhi Police Special CP (Operations), there are over 80,000 Delhi Police personnel. 70% of data has been uploaded on the CoWIN portal and the rest will be uploaded on Wednesday. He added that personnel over 50 years of age will be given priority and they will receive the COVID-19 vaccination date, time and centre via SMS. 

Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu remarked that there are 1 crore 60 lakh health care workers in Punjab. Mentioning that they have received 2.04 lakh doses of the vaccine, Sidhu revealed that those who register on the state government's portal will be given the vaccine for free.

The first batch of COVISHIELD vaccine from Serum Institute of India, Pune has arrived at Dehradun airport. 1,13,000 doses of vaccine were received by Dr.KS Martolia, Assistant Director, National Health Mission, Uttarakhand. 

Assam received the second consignment of COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday as a cargo flight of a private airline carrying 12,000 doses of indigenously developed 'Covaxin' landed at the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport here, an official said. The freighter ferried three boxes, weighing around 78.5 kg, of the COVID vaccine from Hyderabad, he said.

Odisha's COVID-19 tally mounted to 3,32,541 on Wednesday as 210 more people tested positive for infection, while one fresh fatality pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 1,895, a health official said. As many as 122 new cases were reported in quarantine centres, while 88 infections were detected during contact tracing, he said. Sundergarh district reported the highest number of new cases at 30, followed by Angul (24) and Sambalpur (16), the official said.

The first consignment of Covidshield vaccine from Pune-based Serum Insititute of India arrived at the Cochin international airport here on Wednesday morning to combat COVID-19, official sources said. The Go Air flight carrying the vaccine for Ernakulam and Kozhikode landed at the airport at 10.35 am, they said. Special refrigerated vans were arranged to transport the vaccine safely to the respective centres. Transfer of vaccine boxes from the plane to vans was completed in 10 minutes, they said. The second flight carrying the vaccine is expected to reach Thiruvananthapuram international airport this afternoon.

With the addition of 355 new cases of coronavirus, the infection count in Maharashtra's Thane district has reached 2,47,757, an official said on Wednesday. Five more people also succumbed to the viral infection on Tuesday, raising the death toll in the district to 6,038, the official said.

The COVID-19 caseload in Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 4,966 as three more persons have tested positive for the disease in the Union Territory, a health department official said on Wednesday. The fresh cases were detected during contact tracing, he said. The death toll remained at 62 as no new fatality due to the infection was reported in the last 24 hours. Two patients were cured of the disease on Tuesday, taking the total number of recoveries in the archipelago to 4,886, the official said.

Jharkhand has not reported any fresh COVID-19 fatality in the past 24 hours, even as 127 new cases pushed the tally to 1,17,088, a health department official said on Wednesday. The coronavirus death toll remained at 1,048 in the state. The new infections include 52 from Ranchi district, Dhanbad (23) and East Singhbhum (18), he said.

Mumbai received over 1.39 lakh doses of the Oxford COVID-19 vaccine, Covishield, from the Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) early Wednesday morning, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said. This first batch of doses will be delivered across the city at designated vaccination centers for the inoculation drive set to begin on January 16, the BMC said in a statement. The civic body said it received 1,39,500 doses of the Covishield vaccine from the SII around 5.30 am. Health department staffers of the BMC brought the vaccines from neighbouring Pune under the security of two police vehicles, it said. "The vaccine doses are being stored at a facility in F-South ward office situated in Parel," it stated.

COVID-19 vaccine transportation from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) commenced on Wednesday with budget carrier GoAir airlifting 2,400 vials of Covishield to Goa. The Wadia Group-owned no-frills airline has scheduled flights carrying vaccines to Lucknow, Cochin and Chandigarh as well, besides Goa, during the day, a GoAir spokesperson told PTI. GoAir's first flight carrying 2,400 vials (24,000 doses) of Covishield vaccine took off at 5.20 am and reached Goa at 6.30 am, the spokesperson said.

As both Covishield and Covaxin doses begin to arrive at states across the country, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Tuesday, said that the government had purchased 1.1 crore COVISHIELD vaccine doses and 55 lakh COVAXIN vaccine shots. Stating that Serum Institute of India (SII)'s COVISHIELD will cost Rs 200 per dose while COVAXIN's 38 lakh shots will cost Rs 295/dose, Centre said 16.50 lakh COVAXIN doses were provided free of cost. With the two doses spaced by 4 weeks, Centre said that inoculation effect takes 14 days to develop after the administration of the two dosages.

He added that vaccine beneficiaries will not have a choice to choose between the available vaccines, as it was being done by all countries. By Jan 14 all vaccine doses  1.10 cr from Serum Institute and 55 lakh from Bharat Biotech, will be received by in all states/UTs assured the Centre. With over 54 lakh Covishield doses received till 4 pm Tuesday at designated national, state-level vaccine stores, Centre said that order for more doses will be placed in a staggered manner, as discussed between the vaccine manufacturers and the government. Meanwhile, ICMR chief Dr. Balram Bhargava said, "During the first phase, the time gap between the doses will be 28 days, till more knowledge is obtained".

Bharat Biotech, which has received Emergency Use Authorisation approval from the Drug Controller General of India for its COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin, is set to dispatch it from the Rajv Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday evening, a senior official of the Airports cargo division said. Covaxin is being indigenously developed by BharatBiotechin collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) - National Institute of Virology (NIV). The indigenous, inactivated vaccineis developed and manufactured in BharatBiotech's BSL-3 (Bio-Safety Level 3) bio-containment facility, the firm had earlier said.

Punjab has been provided with over 2 lakh doses of the 'Covishield' vaccine. The vans will be taking the vaccine to a storage centre in Chandigarh. Later, it will be taken to three different centres of Punjab 

The first consignment of COVID-19 vaccines have arrived here on Tuesday, and the Karnataka government said it was committed to conducting the vaccination drive in a transparent way. According to official sources, the flight carrying the vaccines landed at the Kempegowda international airport. Earlier in the day, Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar said 7.95 lakh Covishield vaccines were arriving.

The state will be getting 7.95 vials of Covid vaccine in the first consignment and it will be stored in the government storage facility near Anand Rao circle, said Health and Medical Education Minister Dr.K.Sudhakar. He was speaking to the media on Tuesday.

Covi-Shield vaccine has already been approved by the DCGI (Drugs Control general of India). Union government has purchased 1.1 crore dosages of vaccine at a cost of Rs 210 per dose. This is the cheapest vaccine in the world. Said Dr.Sudhakar. Serum institute Pune is supplying vaccine at a cost of 231 crore. Karnataka will get 7.95 lakh vials of Covi-Shield in the first phase, said the Minister.

Each dose of vaccine contains 0.5 ml and each vial contains 10 dosages of vaccines. Second dose should be given 28 days after the first dosage. Vaccine will generate resistance power in the body and it is safe. Said Dr.Sudhakar ‘Not for sale’ is being written over the vial to avoid misuse. Health warriors will get the vaccine on priority. All guidelines will be followed while giving the vaccine. Every person who is vaccinated will be kept under observation for 30 minutes after vaccination, said the Minister.

The government has committed to buy from the Serum Institute further 4.5 crore doses of Oxford COVID-19 vaccine, Covishield, at a price of Rs 200 per shot plus applicable taxes by April, in addition to a firm order given to the company for 1.1 crore doses. Fights have started ferrying the vaccines to different cities from Pune from Tuesday morning. According to the purchase order placed on Monday, each dose of the vaccine has been priced at Rs 200 and with GST of Rs 10, it would cost Rs 210. The HLL Lifecare Limited, a public sector undertaking, issued the supply orders on behalf of the Union Health Ministry on Monday.

India recorded 12,584 new cases of coronavirus, the lowest in around seven months, taking the country's COVID-19 caseload to 1,04,79,179, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday. The death toll increased to 1,51,327 with 167 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.   The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,01,11,294 pushing the national COVID-19 recovery rate to 96.49 per cent, while the COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.44 per cent.

Mizoram reported six more COVID- 19 cases on Tuesday, taking the state's tally to 4,299, an official said. Three of the new cases were reported from the Aizawl district, two from the Kolasib district and one was detected in the Lunglei district, he said.

As India readies for the world's biggest vaccination drive against Coronavirus (COVID-19), PM Modi on Monday, assured that state governments will not have to bear the cost of vaccines to be injected to 3 crore frontline warriors in the first phase. While interacting with all state CMs on the vaccine rollout, PM Modi also announced the launch of the Co-WIN app which is mandatory for receiving the vaccine shot. Aiming to vaccinate 3 crore frontline workers in the first phase, PM Modi said apart from health workers sanitation workers, defence forces, Police and other paramilitary forces will also be vaccinated. He also urged the people to continue the ongoing COVID protocols amid vaccination.

State govts don't have to bear the cost of vaccine provided to 3 crore frontline warriors, it will be born by Indian government. Every state should ensure that no rumors should be spread in terms of the vaccination process. Around 3 crore healthcare workers and frontline workers will be vaccinated in the first phase of vaccination. In the 2nd phase, those above 50 years and those under 50 years with co-morbid conditions will be vaccinated. Health workers - govt as well as private - will be vaccinated first of all. Sanitation workers, other frontline workers, defence forces, Police and other paramilitary forces will also be vaccinated in the first phase," said PM Modi. The Prime Minister also opined that public representatives (MP and MLAs) must not get be included in the 1st phase of vaccination. 

Talking about India's responsibility to vaccinate responsibly, he added, "Many universal immunity programs have already been conducted in India. What India is going to do will be followed by other countries, and that's why our responsibilities are very high. Vaccination has been on in about 50 countries, but only 2.5 crore have been vaccinated till now. Our aim is 30 crore in the coming months."

Announcing the launch of the Co-WIN application, he said, "It is most important to identify and vaccinate those who are vulnerable - hence we have created the Co-WIN app. The beneficiary will be registered as per Aadhar card. Co-WIN will generate a digital certificate after the first vaccine dose. This will help as a reminder for the 2nd dosage and help in knowing who has been vaccinated. The final certificate will be given after the 2nd dose." Urging states to dismiss rumours regarding vaccination, he also said that religious and social organisations must be taken into confidence". The app is not yet available to the general public. 

Pushing ahead its vaccine rollout on January 16, the Centre has officially placed a purchase order of 11 million doses with Serum Institute India for its Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine- COVISHIELD on Monday. Reports had stated that the delay over the order was due to the Centre's negotiation with SII to lower the price of each vaccine shot. The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is priced at Rs 200 per shot and with GST of Rs 10, it would cost Rs 210, stated SII which has already stockpiled 50 million doses for India. Dispatch of the vaccine is likely to start by late Monday evening, they said.

Telangana 

Telangana recorded 224 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the total caseload to 2,90,008, while the death toll rose to 1,566 with one more fatality, the state government said on Monday.

Odisha 

Odisha's COVID-19 caseload on Monday surged to 3,32,106 as 244 more people tested positive for the virus, while one more fatality pushed the coronavirus death toll to 1,892, a health department official said.

Thane (District)

With the addition of 411 new COVID-19 cases, the infection count in Maharashtra's Thane district has reached 2,47,113, an official said on Monday.

Four passengers travelling on Air India's London-Delhi flight tested positive for COVID-19 on arrival, a top official of Genestrings Diagnostic Centre said on Monday. Genestrings runs a lab at the Delhi airport to test incoming passengers for COVID-19. All flights connecting the UK and India were suspended from December 23 to January 7 by the central government as a new variant of coronavirus emerged in that country.

As India's nationwide COVID-19 vaccine inoculation drive begins on January 16, the first truck carrying the COVID-19 vaccine consignment will leave Pune's Serum Institute of India's manufacturing facility on Monday. Koolex Cold Chain Limited, a Mumbai-based pharma supply chain company which has a specialization in temperature control logistics and has a fleet of over 300 reefer trucks will be part of the mammoth logistics transporting Coronavirus vaccines across India. 

With the first consignment for COVID-19 vaccination drive set to roll out on Monday, Koolex Cold Chain's Managing Director Rahul Subhash Agarwal and Executive Director Kunal Subhash Agarwal spoke to Republic Media Network's Executive Editor Niranjan Narayanaswamy. During the special broadcast on January 11, they informed that Koolex trucks will be moving vaccines from the manufacturing facilities to storage facilities and later to end stations, where the people will be inoculated.

Ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday in an open letter announced that the state government will provide free COVID-19 vaccine to all the people of the state. The West Bengal Chief Minister in the letter also saluted all the COVID-19 warriors for their selfless contribution amid the pandemic. 

The letter written by Mamata Banerjee stated, "I am happy to announce that our government is making arrangements to facilitate the administration of COVID-19 vaccine to all the people of the state without any cost."

Amid Indian vaccines being politicised, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday, urged people to desist from spreading misconceptions on vaccines, after a man died ten days after he participated in the clinical trial for Covaxin held at a private hospital. While the post-mortem report suggested poisoning. Chouhan stated that the matter must be handled sensitively so that the vaccination rollout will not be affected. The state government is awaiting the deceased's viscera testing.

A 42-year-old volunteer from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh died nearly ten days after he participated in the clinical trial for Covaxin held at a private hospital, its vice-chancellor said on Saturday. While a government official suspected poisoning but added that the exact cause of the death will be known after the viscera test. Dr Rajesh Kapur, Vice-Chancellor, People's Medical College and Hospital where the trial was conducted, told PTI that Deepak Marawi had participated in the Covaxin trial held on December 12, 2020.

"After Marawi's death on December 21, we informed the Drug Controller General of India and Bharat Biotech, which is the producer and sponsor of the trial," Dr Kapur said. He added, "All protocols were followed and Marawi's consent was taken before allowing him to participate in the trial".  Dr Kapur, however, said he cannot confirm whether Marawi was administered the vaccine shot or was given a placebo. "We monitored his health for 7 to 8 days," he claimed.

"When he returned home he felt uneasy and experienced some health problems. He complained of shoulder pain on December 17. Two days later, he spewed foam. He refused to see a doctor saying he would be alright in a day or two. When his condition deteriorated, he was being rushed to hospital but he died midway (on December 21)," said the deceased's family.

After two successful vaccine 'dry run', the Centre has decided to kick-off the nationwide vaccination drive on 16 January after forthcoming festivals including Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Magh Bihu etc, said government sources on Saturday. The decision came after the Prime Minister chaired a high-level review meeting with Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary to PM, Health Secretary, and other senior officials to review the status of COVID-19 in the country along with the preparedness of the State/UTs for COVID vaccination. The Prime Minister will interact with all CMs on Monday about the same.

Priority will be given to the healthcare workers and the frontline workers, estimated to be around 3 crores in number, which are currently being registered on the government's CO-Win App - 75 lakh benificiaries already registered. Followed by those, above 50 years of age and the under-50 population groups with co-morbidities numbering around 27 crores will be vaccinated by July.  More than 61,000 programme managers, 2 lakh vaccinators and 3.7 lakh other vaccination team members have been trained so far as part of trainings at States, Districts and Block levels. The government is yet to place an official order with COVISHIELD manufacturer - Serum Institute of India (SII), which has stocked 50 million doses for India.

Jharkhand 

Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally rose to 1,16,436 as 207 more people tested positive for the infection, a health department official said on Saturday.

Arunachal Pradesh

Seven more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, taking the tally in the state to 16,764, a health department official said on Saturday.

Andaman & Nicobar islands

The COVID-19 caseload in Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 4,959 as one more person has tested positive for the disease in the Union Territory, a health department official said on Saturday.

Telangana

Telangana registered 298 fresh coronavirus cases, pushing the total caseload to 2.89 lakh, while the toll surged to 1,563 with two more fatalities. 

Mizoram

At least 16 more people, including a one-year-old baby and four security personnel, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram, pushing the state's tally to 4,275, an official said on Saturday.

Puducherry

Puducherry logged 36 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, upping the total infection count in the union territory to 38,425.

Thane (district)

With the addition of 478 fresh coronavirus positive cases on Friday, the infection count in Thane district of Maharashtra rose to 2,46,331, an official said on Saturday.

Days after approval of two COVID vaccines by India, the Health ministry sources on Saturday said that 5000 session sites have been identified across the country for the COVID vaccine administration. In the national capital, there are as many as 89 session sites. Further, officials have been asked to submit a report by January 9 on appropriate locations where vaccination drive could take place in Delhi. The development comes after PMO's office announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a virtual meeting with the Chief Ministers of all states at 4 pm on January 11 to discuss the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine. Earlier on Friday, the first priority list of people was identified by the Health Ministry.

Delhi: Two passengers who arrived on a flight from the UK have tested positive for #COVID19.  Flight ops b/w India & the United Kingdom resumed today after a week of suspension due to new COVID strain. The first flight carrying 256 passengers arrived in Delhi today from London.
