Iraqi President Salih meet EU's Borrell in Baghdad

Iraqi President Barham Salih met with the European Union foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, at the presidential palace in Baghdad on Monday.

Their discussion included recent political and security developments in the country and the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections set for October 10, which the EU will be monitoring for the first time.

The EU will send an observation mission to Iraq to assess the vote and its report will be made public and will include recommendations to help improve "the electoral framework in Iraq", Borrell said earlier Monday in a press conference.

Borrell will travel to Irbil on Tuesday to meet with authorities in the Kurdish region.
