Honda has launched the 2018 Africa Twin at Rs 13.23 Lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). Compared to last year’s outgoing model, the new model has been priced Rs 33,000 more.

Honda is limiting the number bookings to 50 this year with a booking price of Rs 50,000 and will only be available at 22 ‘Wing World’ dealerships across the country. The new bike while seen to be cosmetically similar to its predecessor, nonetheless, gets a power-packed upgrade in its features.

Unlike the outgoing model, the bike now gets a new instrument cluster with better visibility from top angles. The adventure tourer will have the same 998 cc parallel twin engine, but with a longer airbox, churning a maximum power of 87 bhp and 93 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM.

Adding to the safety features, the new Africa Twin comes with a throttle-by-wire (TBW), 3 riding modes and a seven-level Honda selectable torque control followed by the three-level ABS which can be switched off for the rear wheel.

Honda will continue with the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) gearbox, the 21-inch wheel at the front and the 18-inch at the rear wheel. Enhancing its ride is the 45mm cartridge-type Showa inverted front forks and a Pro-Link rear mono-shock.

The DCT is substantiated with three riding modes for different types of usage. Automatic (D) mode is ideal for city and highway riding and achieves optimum fuel efficiency. Automatic (S) mode offers three levels of sportier riding as the ECU lets the engine rev a little higher before shifting up, and shifts down sooner when decelerating for extra engine braking. The MT mode gives full manual control, allowing the rider to shift gear with the left handlebar trigger control buttons. Additionally, the bike is available with different levels of power and engine braking.

Talking at the launch, Mr. Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President - Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “The eagerly awaited 2018 Africa Twin is now ready to delight adventure enthusiasts in India. Offering new additional value, it offers several comprehensive updates. There is nothing to hold back an enthusiast on the Africa Twin, as it’s the most reliable, versatile and proven adventure touring motorcycle.
