Japanese manufacturer Kawasaki has pulled the plug on the Versys 1000 in India. The litre-class adventure tourer that was introduced in India in 2015 appears to have failed to grab attention in the Indian market.

The Versys failed to be a trendsetter in the Indian market, despite being one of the earliest adventure tourers to be introduced, in 2015. In recent times, the Indian motorcycle market has seen a number of new launches in the mid-level as well as entry-level adventure tourer bikes. With the launch of the new BMW G 310 GS, Kawasaki' Versys seemed to have been pushed further down in the list.

Kawasaki has not given an official confirmation on the same. However, the bike has been removed from the product line up on its official webpage. Dealerships across the country have reportedly not received any new models of the Versys since the past few months.

Triumph Tiger 1200 XCX

The Versys locked horns with the Triumph Tiger 1200 XCx, BMW R 1200 GS Adventure and the Honda Africa Twin. The adventure tourer had a comparatively taller seating than its rivals which proved to be a problem for short riders.

The outgoing model possessed a 1,043cc engine which churned out 118 bhp of power and 102 Nm of peak torque at 7500rpm. However, the tourer was tuned differently, specifically for the adventure tourer segment it addressed. Future plans for the Versys are yet to be announced. The bike weighed 239 Kg and had a semi-digital instrument cluster. Apart from that, it also came with the Kawasaki Traction Control with three modes.

This news comes a few weeks after Kawasaki opened a new manufacturing plant in Pune. The shift in production to India enabled a Rs 6 lakh drop in the ZX10R's price as an introductory offer. The offer which was supposed to valid up till the end of July, however, saw all the bikes being sold within the first 15 days itself.

The bike will be available in a couple of months. However, it is still unclear how long one has to wait in order for the bookings to begin again.
