In its latest release, Mahindra has christened its upcoming MPV, expected to launch in 2019, as Marazzo. The MPV is likely to lock horns with the Toyota Innova and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The name is derived from Basque, a sub-language of Spanish which means shark.

Taking inspiration from its name, the car's design would be streamlined and aerodynamically enhanced in shape. In the overall silhouette and in the front grille, the car is expected to have a grille that would resemble the teeth of the Shark.

The company states that the Marazzo is a globally developed product, that is engineered through a collaboration between Mahindra North America Technical Centre (MNATC) and Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai.

“The intense process of development and refinement of the Marazzo is comparable to any global vehicle and incorporates a number of innovations. This has delivered better space, smoother ride with a quieter cabin, best-in-class cooling, excellent safety and a tough body construction in the Marazzo. Infact the Marazzo has the largest footprint (wheelbase x front track) of any Mahindra vehicle. I am confident that it will set a new benchmark and become a game-changer in its segment”. said Rajan Wadhera, President Automotive Sector, M&M Ltd.

Apart from the Marazzo, the company is also likely to launch the XUV 700 soon which was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. The latest version of the flagship model would be a re-worked version of the Ssangyong Rexton G4 SUV which was spotted several times undergoing tests in India. The SUV would take on the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.

Mahindra and Mahindra had recently announced a price hike of Rs 30,000 for all its car models. The 2% (or Rs 30,000) price hike is restricted to all the M&M passenger vehicles which are sold in the country with effect from August 2018.

"With the ongoing increase in commodity prices, we plan to take a price hike of up to 2 percent in some models." the release stated. Consumers saw a 3% hike in all its models from January this year. President of Automotive sector of Mahindra and Mahindra Rajan Wadhera had justified the price hikes for the absorption of higher input costs in the manufacturing of the vehicles.
