In a homage to the 1997 Mclaren F1 GTR, McLaren Special Operations has revealed a new bespoke 675LT. The car sports the same paint scheme as the 1997 car which won the BPR Global Endurance Series in 1996 and the GT1 Class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1997.

Keeping the 675 LT as the base, MSO has employed the Gulf Oil Livery which was popular since its inception in the 1960s and was adopted by many companies which worked with it. A variety of cosmetic changes have been made to the exteriors giving the car a more track-ish stance.

“Creating a car like this unique McLaren 675LT, crafted to individual customer specification, is exactly the type of demanding commission that MSO Bespoke was formed to embrace,” explained Ansar Ali, Managing Director, McLaren Special Operations.

“Transforming the existing car from its original single colour paintwork to a tribute to the McLaren F1 GTR ‘Longtail’ in Gulf Racing livery was incredibly demanding in its own right, but was only part of the brief; we also replaced numerous standard 675LT components with MSO parts and further personalised the car to clearly identify it with its owner, a service that an increasing number of MSO customers request,” he added. 

The new LT comes with a louvred front fender, a new roof scoop and a carbon fibre air-brake. The car has a 20-spoke wheel in the iconic Daylo Orange. Not limiting its MSO features to the exterior, the customisations have been carried out in the cockpit as well. The handling and the powertrain bezel gets a blue shade while the start/stop key gets an orange one.

The customization of the car even extends till adding the initials of the owner on the orange still badge as well as on the headrests on the seat. McLaren claims that it has made the customization of the cars really flexible with any demand by the customers being fulfilled no matter how complicated.

On the road, at the heart of the car is a 3.8L V8 engine pumping out a total of 675 PS of power and 700 Nm of torque, capable of hitting the 100kmph mark in 2.9 sec and maxing out at 330kmph.

The F1 GTR was the race version of the F1 that was used in endurance racing in 1997. The GTR version was 138 kgs lighter and had a long tail with minimal drag and improved downforce.
