Most of the businesses in Milan's Chinatown were closed for a second day on Tuesday, following weeks of customers staying away from the area amid fears of the spread of the new coronavirus.

A representative of Chinese business owners in Milan told local media on Monday that most of the 500 businesses in the area decided to close to save on costs.

Some of Milan's Chinese residents say they have faced discrimination since the first cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Italy.

"I now live in a hotel because my past owner (landlord) does not let me live in my old place," said Stella, a 23 year-old Chinese woman studying in Milan.
