GOC Trishakti Corps reviews Sikkim forward areas, commends troops' dedication amidst harsh terrain

General VPS Kaushik evaluated Sikkim's readiness, lauding soldiers for resilience amidst challenging conditions.

Gangtok: The General Commanding Officer (GOC) Trishakti Corps, Lt General VPS Kaushik, recently visited the forward areas in Sikkim to review the preparedness of the formation, as per reports on Thursday, December 21. The visit was part of the ongoing efforts to assess and ensure operational readiness.

In a statement shared on X  by the Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army, it was highlighted that General VPS Kaushik personally engaged with the officers and soldiers stationed at the forward posts in the challenging terrains of East Sikkim. Despite the unforgiving icy heights and harsh weather conditions, General Kaushik commended the resolute officers and soldiers for their unwavering dedication and commitment to their duty, applauding their selfless service to the nation.

 "GOC TrishaktiCorps visited the forward areas in Sikkim and reviewed the operational preparedness of the Formation. He also interacted with the resolute officers & soldiers deployed at the forward posts in the icy heights of East Sikkim & commended them for their selfless commitment towards the nation & devotion to duty despite the challenging terrain and harsh weather conditions," the Trishakti Corps wrote.

Also on December 20, Lt Gen RC Srikanth, COS of HQ Eastern Command, lauded the troops of Trishakti Corps at NatuLa, East Sikkim.

” He commended all ranks for their selfless commitment towards the nation, devotion to duty and high standards of professionalism. He praised their steadfast resolve and resolute dedication despite the challenging terrain and harsh weather conditions”, the Eastern command stated in a statement on X .  

Trishakti Corps commemorating Hilli Day 

Moreover, the Corps commemorated Hilli Day on December 20, honouring the victory of the Indian Army at the significant battle of Hilli during the 1971 War. A wreath-laying ceremony was conducted at the renovated Hilli War Memorial on behalf of GOC Trishakti Corps and participating units in remembrance of the courageous individuals who made ultimate sacrifices during the battle.

A series of events marked the occasion, including a Cycle Rally from Panagarh to Hilli, a Bike Rally from Binnaguri to Hilli, as well as cultural performances and a march past by cadets from the 7th Bn West Bengal NCC. The celebration also involved the recognition of Veer Naris and veterans. Civil Administration officials, BSF personnel, and local residents actively participated in these events.

Furthermore, demonstrating the Corps' commitment to public service, on December 13, the Trishakti Corps conducted a successful rescue operation, saving 1217 tourists, including elderly individuals, women, and children, who were stranded due to sudden heavy snowfall in East Sikkim. The rescued tourists received shelter, warm clothing, medical aid, and hot meals to ensure their well-being. Additionally, assistance was extended to 30 tourists stranded in North Sikkim, providing them safe passage to secure locations.
