CAT 2023 Results: Candidates with Engineering Backgrounds Dominate Top Ranks
Among the 72 candidates occupying the top 3 positions, a stark dominance emerged—53 hailed from engineering disciplines.
In the recently declared Common Admission Test (CAT 2023) results by the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, men with engineering backgrounds showcased a prominent presence in the top ranks. Among the 72 candidates occupying the top 3 positions, a stark dominance emerged—53 hailed from engineering disciplines, while a smaller cohort of 19 represented non-engineering backgrounds. This marked disparity underscores the prevalence of engineering expertise among the highest achievers in this prestigious examination.
Remarkably, within this elite group, 14 individuals attained a perfect 100 percentile. Of these top scorers, only one woman claimed a spot in the 99.99 percentile category. These revelations, sourced from the CAT results detailed by Prof. Sanjeet Singh, the CAT Convener for 2023, shed light on the composition of the triumphant cohort and highlight the pronounced skew towards male candidates, particularly those with engineering backgrounds.
Delving into the specifics of these exceptional performers, all 14 candidates who achieved the coveted 100 percentile were male. Originating from diverse regions across India—4 from Maharashtra, 2 from Telangana, and one each from UP, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu—their collective feat showcased a geographical spread of excellence. Within this subset, 11 belonged to engineering backgrounds, reinforcing the prevailing trend of engineering prowess among the highest achievers. In contrast, a minority of 3 hailed from non-engineering disciplines, highlighting their exceptional performance amidst the dominant engineering majority.
The unveiled statistics from CAT 2023 underscore the prevailing trends in academic excellence, revealing a notable prevalence of men with engineering backgrounds among the top performers, while also emphasizing the significant gender imbalance within this elite cohort.
