New Delhi: Delhi University (DU) has announced a significant change in its academic regulations by increasing the passing percentage required for promotion to the following year in all undergraduate courses. According to university authorities, the passing percentage has been raised from 50 percent to 63 percent.

Under this new regulation, undergraduate students at all DU colleges must now maintain a cumulative grade point average of 63 percent in their first and second semesters to be eligible for promotion to the next academic year.

However, there are provisions for exceptions. Students representing Delhi University in sports, extracurricular activities, the National Cadet Corps (NCC), and the National Service Scheme (NSS), among other activities, may be exempted from this criterion if approved by their respective college authorities.

This change has been implemented in line with the National Education Policy’s (NEP) Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) 2022, as confirmed by a university official.

“Under the previous passing and promotion rules, a student was eligible for promotion from first year to second year provided they cleared 50 percent of the exams in the first and second semesters combined. The students had to clear seven papers and obtain a total of 22 credits to get promoted,” an official explained.
