NEET UG 2024: 1,563 Candidates to Appear For Re-Exam Today, 6 Centres Changed
Certain cases of alleged irregularities, cheating, impersonation and malpractices have been reported in NEET-UG which was conducted on May 5.
New Delhi: NEET UG Re-Exam 2024: Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding NEET-UG 2024, 1,563 students will be retaking the exam today (Sunday, June 23). The National Testing Agency (NTA) released admit cards for candidates on Saturday and has changed six centres for the re-examination, including Jhajjar in Haryana, where six students scored a perfect 720 marks. NTA officials will be present at the exam centre to ensure fair conduct of the exam.
This re-examination comes after the Centre earlier told the Supreme Court that it had cancelled the grace marks awarded to 1,563 candidates who took the exam, adding that these candidates would have the option to either take a retest or forego the compensatory marks awarded to them for loss of time. Certain cases of alleged irregularities, cheating, impersonation and malpractices have been reported in NEET-UG which was conducted on May 5.
'Strictest Action': Govt Hands Over NEET Paper Leak Probe to CBI
On Saturday, the Ministry of Education handed over the NEET paper leak probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
"For transparency on the conduct of the examination process, it was decided after a review that the matter be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for comprehensive investigation," a senior Education Ministry official said.
Over the alleged irregularities in competitive exams, National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General Subodh Singh was removed and a seven-member panel headed by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan for exam reforms has been formed.
What is The NEET-UG 2024 Controversy About?
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2024 which was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) at 4,750 centres in 571 cities for more than 24 lakh candidates this year/
The result of the NEET-UG 2024 was declared on June 4. However, immediately after the results were announced, several students raised allegations of irregularities when 67 students achieved top scores of 720, amidst claims of question paper leaks in Bihar.
A group of candidates approached the Supreme Court demanding a fresh exam due to alleged paper leaks and concerns about the test's integrity.
