He also referred to an old comment from 2002, made by the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, saying that Modi who had attacked the Chief Election Commissioner James Michael Lyngdoh based on his religion, should not preaching as it was 'disgusting'.

Big Setback For Opposition: Supreme Court Dismisses 21 Parties' Review Plea Seeking Increase In VVPAT-EVM Verification

Naidu, who headed the group of 21 Opposition parties demanding verification of 50% VVPAT slips in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls suffered a setback as the SC, on Tuesday dismissed the plea after a short hearing stating that there will be no increase in the VVPAT verification from its current 5% verification of VVPAT slips.

Twenty-one Opposition parties led by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had jointly demanded 50% counting of VVPAT or Voter Verified Paper Audit Trails in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls should be done, citing the 'unreliability' of the EVMs in a joint press brief to 'Save Democracy.'

While the Opposition has accepted the Supreme Court's decision while addressing the media, they have vowed to continue their fight to ensure free and fair elections by stating that the Election Commission hasn't yet implemented the 5% verification order in the correct manner and that they will be taking it up with the poll body and also taking the issue to the public
