Creating a ruckus in the first phase of election at Gooty of Ananthapur district in Andhra Pradesh, Janasena Party MLA candidate Madhusudhan Gupta damaged an EVM by throwing it on the floor. He disrupted the electoral process in a polling booth, saying that he was angry that candidates names weren't displayed properly.

Gupta, who had come to cast his vote at the polling station in Gooty, was angry with the polling staff over names of the candidates of Assembly and Parliament constituencies not being displayed properly. The video that has been accessed by Republic shows him talking furiously, and pushing his way forward through a long queue that had lined up outside the polling booth. He then screamed on the election staff and criticised them for manhandling the machines. He then smashed an electronic voting machine on the floor and broke it.

However the police took cognisance of the incident and immediately arrested Gupta.

Andhra Pradesh has a keenly watched contest between the current CM N Chandrababu Naidu's TDP and Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSRCP. While Jaganmohan Reddy says that there's no change in the demand for special status and that his party is open for an alliance with any party over this demand, Naidu's TDP has faced flak since the time he broke away from the NDA in 2018.

Elections are taking place in all the 25 Lok Sabha seats of Andhra Pradesh and the state is also simultaneously polling for the 175 assembly seats.
