2019 Lok Sabha Election Results for Arunachal West: BJP's Kiren Rijiju wins comfortably against former CM, Congress' Nabam Tuki

Sitting MP and Union Minister from Arunachal West, Kiren Rijiju contested from the seat of Arunachal West. He had defeated Takam Sanjoy of the Congress by 41,738 votes in 2014. The 2019 battle saw the Union Minister of state for Home fight against Congress' Nabam Tuki.

Sitting MP and Union Minister from Arunachal West, Kiren Rijiju contested from the seat of Arunachal West. He had defeated Takam Sanjoy of the Congress by 41,738 votes in 2014. The 2019 battle saw the Union Minister of state for Home fight against Congress' Nabam Tuki.

Candidates from other parties include Janata Dal (Secular) candidate Jarjum Ete, All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) candidate Jomin Nyokir Kara and National People's Party candidate Khyoda Api. Rumak Jomoh, an Independent candidate had also contested.

Rijiju has won with 225796 votes against his contender Nabam Tuki with 50953 votes.

The rural constituency voted on April 11 in the phase one of the polls. The seat is distributed across Tawang, West Kameng, East Kameng, Papum Pare, Lower Subansiri, Kurung Kumey, Upper Subansiri and West Siang. The constituency has 33 assembly segments.

Jarjum Ete is the first woman candidate fielded by any party for a Lok Sabha seat in Arunachal Pradesh. The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill happened to be one of the key poll issues.

One of the key issues for the elections was the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 through which Hindu, Sikh, Parsi, Jain, Buddhist and Christian refugees from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan would be granted Indian citizenship, if they have lived in India for six year, even if they do not have the necessary documents.

The population of Scheduled Tribe in the seat is 55.51%.

In the Republic Double Exit poll the Jan Ki Baat and CVoter predicted the alliance to win both the seats in the state.
