Lok Sabha Election Controversy: Arunachal Pradesh Catholic Association appeals to vote for Congress candidate Nabam Tuki, calls him 'pillar of catholic church'

In a blatant breach of the Model Code of Conduct, Arunachal Pradesh Catholic Association(APCA) issued an official 'prayer petition' requesting all 'parishes and catholic church' to vote in favour of Congress leader Nabam Tuki, who is set to contest from the Arunachal West seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The Association also urges the parishes to pray for the Congress leader and 'cast their votes on April 11 with a prayfully clear conscience in favour of Nabam Tuki'. The letter regards Nabam Tuki as 'the pillar of the Catholic Church' in the state.

"APCA appeals & requests all the Parishes & Catholic church, Arunachal Pradesh to pray for Shri Nabam Tuki, who is contesting ensuing Lok Sabha Election 2019 from Western Parliamentary constituency, he is the pillars of the Catholic church in A.P. Pray for the peace & prosperity, protection and success of their election. APCA requested to all the voters of Catholic Community who are going to cast their valuable vote on 11.4.19 to exercise their adult franchise with prayful clear conscience and vote in favour of him," reads the letter dated March 28.

Nabam Tuki, a former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh is the Congress candidate contesting against Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and BJP Leader Kiren Rijiju, for the Arunachal West seat.

Earlier, on March 26, the Arunachal Pradesh Christian Revival Church Council (APCRCC) issued an order in support of National People’s Party candidate Kyoda Apik contesting for the West parliamentary seat in Arunachal Pradesh. The order urged the APCRCC, entire Christian community and all the concerned district Councils to support Kyoda Apik. The National People’s Party has fielded a candidate for the first time in the Lok Sabha elections. Kyoda Apik, a cardamom farmer by profession and religious activist will contest for the West parliamentary seat. Party president G Kabak in a statement said that it would not contest for the East parliamentary seat.  

Arunachal Pradesh has a total number of 2 Lok Sabha Constituencies and will vote in a single phase on April 11, 2019.
