10.2% voter turnout in Assam, EVM glitches and possible IED also detected

In Assam, five parliamentary constituencies, namely, Tezpur, Kalibor, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur are observing the polling on April 11. Officials said that there was a 10.2% voter turnout till 9 am. Apart from that, there were also reports of EVM glitches in a few polling booths in addition to an IED being detected at an oil pipeline.

In Assam, five parliamentary constituencies, namely, Tezpur, Kalibor, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur are observing polling day on April 11. Officials said that there was a 10.2% voter turnout till 9 am. Apart from that, there were also reports of EVM glitches in a few polling booths in addition to an IED being detected at an oil pipeline. 

Here in the state, Gaurav Gogoi - the son of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, is the sitting lawmaker from Kaliabor in the state. According to the Congress list, INC has fielded MGVK Bhanu from Tezpur, Gaurav Gogoi from Kaliabor, Sushanata Borgohain from Jorhat, Paban Singh Ghatowar from Dibrugarh and Anil Borgohain from the Lakhimpur constituency.

In Assam, BJP is sharing its Lok Sabha seats with Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People's Front (BPF). From Tezpur, it has fielded Sjt. Pallab Lochan Das, Mani Madhab Mahanta (AGP) in Kaliabor, Tapan Gogoi (BJP) in Jorhat, Rameswar Teli (BJP) in Dibrugarh and Pradan Baruah (BJP) from the Lakhimpur constituency.

Gaurav Gogoi has been locked in a fight with AGP'S Mani Madhab in the state.

After Aprill 11, Assam will go for polling in the other two phases on April 18 and 23.

Voting is being held for 91 out of 543 constituencies spread over 20 States and Union Territories on April 11. The remaining six phases will be held on April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. The counting of the votes will take place on May 23.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had started his 2019 Lok Sabha campaigns in the North-Eastern states on March 30 with a rally in Moran district in Assam.
