Here's what All India Mahila Congress chief Sushmita Dev has to say on Priyanka Chaturvedi's resignation from the Congress

President of All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) Sushmita Dev took to Twitter on Saturday and wished Priyanka Chaturvedi luck after the latter's exit from the Congress party and subsequent joining hands with the Shiv Sena on account of the party re-instating members who had misbehaved with her in an incident in Mathura in August 2018.

In a tweet posted by the INC candidate of Silchar, Assam, she said that she ‘always felt that Priyanka was cherished and nurtured by all in the Congress party’. Dev further wrote that she hopes Chaturvedi succeeds in her plans in the Shiv Sena. She didn't remark on the specific issue that led to Chaturvedi's exit despite her position as AIMC chief.

In a letter to Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Chaturvedi tendered her resignation from all posts of the party earlier on April 18.

"I had joined the INC as a member of Youth Congress in Mumbai 10 years back as I believed in the ideology of the party and your vision of inclusive, liberal, progressive politics. In the last few weeks certain things have convinced me that my service was not valued in the organisation and that I have reached the end of the road," she wrote in her resignation.

The former AICC Spokesperson and Convenor Communication had taken on her party just a few days earlier over inaction on her complaint, where she had said that the Congress was giving preference to "lumpen goons instead of those who had given years of sweat and blood" to it.

In response to Chaturvedi’s tweet, former Congress leader from Gujarat Alpesh Thakor on Friday said that the party should not have reinstated those who had misbehaved with her, rather should have given a message through the incident.

"They should have dismissed them. The mistreatment she suffered, given it happened to a woman, they should not have reinstated them. They should have given out a strong message through this incident," he said.
