Former UPA Union Minister and Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed has been suspended from party for anti-party activities.
Shakeel Ahmed was seeking ticket from party from Madhubani seat in Bihar for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, seat went to allies' quota and the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP)'s Badrinath Purve was chosen to fight from the seat. Later, he filed nomination as an independent candidate.
The decision was taken by the disciplinary committee, which included MP and AICC general secretary Motilal Vohra, though Ahmed did have the support of several Congress members.
The All India Congress Committee released a statement on Sunday saying that Ahmed has been suspended with immediate effect for contesting as an Independent candidate from Madhubani Lok Sabha seat. It also says a Bhavana Jha, an MLA from Benipatti has also been suspended from the party for anti-party activities with respect to the general elections.

This is not the first time the Congress and its allies in Bihar have squabbled over seats.
Earlier, the RJD refused the Begusurai seat to CPI candidate Kanhaiya Kumar. Tejashwi Yadav in an exclusive interview to Republic Media Network spoke about the issue.
He also talked about Begusarai candidate of CPI and former JNU Student Union president Kanhaiya Kumar, saying that he does not believe in the 'traitor tag' levelled against him.
"We didn't give the seat to Kanhaiya Kumar because our agenda is to defeat BJP and we already had a strong contender in Begusarai, it's not because of his traitor tag, no one is traitor until and unless the court says it. Congress is planning to scrap sedition law because many times it has been misused, now see during BJP's tenure charges against Kanhaiya was made claiming that he raised slogans against the country but later when the court passed judgement, we came to know that it was a fake video. Kanhaiya suffered unnecessarily, bechara beguna bacha. (Poor innocent child)"
