Speaking about the issues which the election revolve around, Union Minister of Law Ravi Shankar Prasad, on Sunday said that a capable, progressive and inclusive India is what the BJP is working towards in the country and in Bihar, talking exclusively to Republic TV before casting his vote in Bihar's Patna.
"A capable India, brave India, effective India, progressive India, and inclusive India is our poll agenda. The way the Prime Minister has developed the nation, I wish to continue his work in Bihar. As it is a Lok Sabha elections, we need an effective and capable Prime Minister to lead us. We will win with an absolute majority," he said.
When asked about why the BJP is raising nationalist issues rather than basic issues, he said:
"We have always raised basic issues, but if someone asks the proof of martyrdom by Indian soldiers, then nationalism will come into play."
After casting his vote in Patna Women's college accompanied by his mother, Prasad said the wish to connect at the roots of society made him take the Lok Sabha plunge finally. This is the first Lok Sabha election for the Union Minister.
"I always wanted to connect with the people. Hence I visited around 250 villages myself. The acute heat also did not affect me as I conducted over 300 public meetings," he added.
Talking about the difference between the NDA and the Opposition, he pointed out the lack of leadership and agenda in the Opposition saying:
"People look towards with a lot of faith. 2014's election was of hope, 2019 is that of faith. The fight is also based on polity, justice, and intentions. On one side is Modiji, Ram Vilas ji (Paswan) and us, on the other side - they neither know who leads them with no intention just an agenda - Remove Modi."
When asked about Chandrababu Naidu's efforts to band all non-NDA leaders together to revive the 'mahagathbandhan', he said that while Naidu is attempting a post-poll alliance, he himself may get wiped off from Andhra Pradesh. He added that while BJP has a capable leader in Modi, the Opposition is fighting among themselves and that the era of 'the United Front' is over.
"Chandrababu Naidu is himself getting cleared away from Andhra Pradesh. Everyone is saying the same. There is no restriction in showing daydreams. If they could not band together before the polls, how will they band now? Mayawati, Akhilesh are saying 'Rahul Gandhi get out from UP', Mamataji is saying 'Rahul Gandhi get out from Bengal'. Did Chandrababu Naidu ally with Congress in Andhra Pradesh? This is just talks that's all. We have a capable candidate - Narendra Modi, who has worked for the nation responsibly. The era of Deve Gowda-Gujral is over, where governments existed for 4 or 8 months," he added.
Commenting on the BJP's stand on Pragya Thakur's insensitive comment calling Nathuram Godse a 'deshbhakt', he said: "The party has already taken a call on the proceedings and she has already apologized."
The BJP leader, fighting his first Lok Sabha polls faces Congress Leader and sitting MP, Shatrughan Sinha for the Patna Sahib constituency which is polling on Sunday. Bihar's Nalanda, Patna Sahib, Pataliputra, Arrah, Buxar, Sasaram, Kurakat, Jahanabad constituencies are polling today in the last phase of elections. Results are scheduled on May 23.
