While addressing a rally in Begusarai on April 23, Yechury said that Kanhaiya's victory is important for the nation, specifically, that it is needed to 'save India today and to change it for the better'. The Communist Party of India (CPI) had confirmed to field former JNU Student Union president Kanhaiya Kumar from the Begusarai seat in Bihar after the Mahagatbandhan excluded the Left from the seat-sharing formula in the state.

Veteran lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar also interacted with a gathering in Begusarai while campaigning for Kanhaiya Kumar.

Earlier on Saturday, critically-acclaimed actor Prakash Raj, known for his roles in Bollywood movies “Wanted” and “Singham”, campaigned in Begusarai. He has also announced that he will be in Begusarai on April 24 to support Kanhaiya once again.
