  • Hinting at a rift in the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav said that he won't share the stage with Congress chief Rahul Gandhi
  • 'I will be there in the rally next time. There's not a big issue in it,' said Tejashwi while brushing aside the tussle between Congress and RJD on candidacy of Pappu Yadav from Madhepura

Hinting at a rift in the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav said he won't be sharing the stage with Congress chief Rahul Gandhi who is campaigning in the state on Saturday.

While leaving for his campaign in Khagaria district that goes to polls in the third phase, the RJD leader said that all the leaders of the Mahagathbandhan are doing their best and campaigning at different places.

"It is not possible for all to be at one stage. We have divided our responsibilities. In 2015, we were there in Gandhi Maidan last time. I will be there in the rally next time. There's not a big issue in it," Tejashwi said.

However, as per sources, the real reason for Tejashwi's no-show is the ongoing disquiet between the Congress and RJD over Pappu Yadav and Ranjeet Ranjan's candidatures. The purported rift within the Mahagathbandhan had begun before the seat-sharing arrangement was finalised when the Congress wanted to contest from the Nalanda, Madhubani and Darbhanga seats, while the RJD and HAM wished to field their own candidates from the seats. The Congress had also wanted Ranjeet Ranjan, its candidate from Supaul and wife of Pappu Yadav, to persuade her husband not to contest from Madhepura. Pappu Yadav who was elected in 2014 on RJD ticket was expelled by RJD supremo Lalu Yadav and then floated his Jan Adhikar Party Loktantrik and is contesting as an independent candidate from Madhepura. Meanwhile, Mahagathbandhan's Sharad Yadav has been given a ticket from the same constituency. In retaliation, RJD's Supaul district unit is supporting independent candidate Dinesh Yadav instead of Congress' Ranjeet Ranjan.

The leaders of NDA in Bihar have questioned the absence of Tejashwi from all Rahul Gandhi's rallies in Bihar. Deputy CM of Bihar and JD(U)'s leader Sushil Modi said:

"In PM Modi's rally, LJP's Ramvilas Paswan, an ally in the NDA will also be present. It is clear that in Mahagathbandhan people of RJD are protesting. A protest is brewing inside the Mahagathbandhan. In Bihar, NDA is united while UPA is divided."

Earlier, Tejashwi commented on the 2015 'DNA' comment by PM Modi and said that he becomes a fake OBC whenever he comes to Bihar. He also said that the PM did not fulfil the promises of special package for Bihar and upgrading the status of Patna University to a central level university.
