Republic TV has revealed the poll of polls for the state of Chhattisgarh in which elections were held in two phases, on November 12 and November 20.

The exit poll by CVoter projects the Congress being on the verge of dethroning the BJP and long-time Chief Minister Raman Singh in the 90-member assembly, while Jan Ki Baat gives the edge to the BJP. There are also sufficient numbers in the piece for the BSP-Ajit Jogi alliance to cast the deciding vote as to who will form a government in the state.

Accordingly, the poll of polls suggests a split verdict, with both BJP and Congress coming agonisingly close to a majority.

The election in Chhattisgarh witnessed a three-way contest between the BJP, Congress and the newly formed Mayawati-Ajit Jogi led alliance. With the Congress and BJP going head-to-head, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi campaigning heavily in the state, along with long-time Chief Minister Raman Singh of the BJP and surprise face Navjot Singh Sidhu for the Congress, there is every chance that the election result may also be a referendum on the faces of the various parties.

BJP's Raman Singh, the long-serving Chief Minister, has been a popular face among the voters, thanks to the various welfare schemes that he introduced during his tenure. The BJP has also promised to end the menace of Maoism in the state, and this could play a role, especially seeing as there were dastardly attacks in the weeks leading up to the polling following which Congress' Raj Babbar shockingly called them revolutionaries.

In 2013, BJP won the majority in the state with 49 seats while Congress stood second by a wafer-thin margin by winning 39 seats. Moreover, BSP secured only one seat in the state.

With the assembly elections, the final countdown to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections has begun. The results of the assembly polls in all five states, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Mizoram and Chhattisgarh will profoundly determine the national mood.

Results for all 5 states will be declared on December 1.
