Two days after BJP MLA Bheema Mandvi's killing in Dantewada Maoist attack, his family sets an example as they go out to cast vote

In an act that can inspire the entire nation, the family members of BJP MLA Bheema Mandvi who lost his life in the Maoist attack in Dantewada on April 9 cast their votes in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh.

On Tuesday, Madnvi and four security personnel were killed in a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district. 

It was not just the family of the BJP MLA who showed great strength in front of adversity and grief, the people from the district of Dantewada in Bastar too displayed great enthusiasm for the dance of democracy, despite the threat to security. 

The Election Commission on Thursday during a media briefing informed that voters in Shyamgiri in Bastar's Dantewada district had come in great numbers to cast their ballots despite the security threat. The turnout in the district was 77% in the polling station.

"Voters in great number fearlessly used their franchise in Shyamgiri (in Bastar's Dantewada district) polling station. Turn out was 77% in this polling station," the EC said.

Hours after the Maoist attack, the Election Commission ensured that polling will take place as per schedule in the state. "Polling will go on as per schedule," EC officials said quoting state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Subrat Sahu.

The CEO also said the collectors and SPs (superintendents of police) were instructed to take utmost precautions over the next few days keeping in mind polling in the first phase on April 11 and second phase on April 18 in the state.

Earlier on Thursday, visuals showed the enthusiasm of the people in the democratic process.

Images from people waiting outside the polling station (Booth no 139) in the village of  Dugeli in Chattisgarh's Dantewada District in Chattisgarh showed they turned out in large numbers to cast their votes, two days after the ghastly Maoists attack. 

Chhattisgarh went to polls on Thursday in the first phase, the rest of the two phases will take place on April 18 and April 23.
