Congress' Central Election Committee has released a list of five candidates for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Haryana. The list includes former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Hooda who had earlier won three consecutive terms (2004, 2009, 2014) in the assembly elections from Garhi Sampla-Kilo will be contesting from Sonepat for the general elections.

Hooda has been in controversy over his alleged involvement in scams such as the Manesar land scam and Associated Journals Limited (AJL) case.

In January, the CBI had booked the former Haryana CM n charges of corruption, criminal conspiracy, cheating public at large and causing unlawful loss to the state. The CBI court had summoned him on April 19, 2019 for the hearing in the case.

In December, the state government had given police to investigate the land deal case against former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

In May 2016 that the Haryana vigilance bureau had registered cheating and corruption cases against Hooda, who was Haryana CM from 2005 till 2014. The reason behind Hooda and other officials, all a part of the erstwhile Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), being booked was for allegedly reallocating a plot in Panchkula to ALJ, the publisher of the National Herald newspaper, in 2005. In 2011, ALJ's ownership was transferred to Young India Limited, in which Rahul and Sonia Gandhi are shareholders and directors.
