WATCH: 'Modi' Chants At Navjot Singh Sidhu's Rohtak Rally, Woman Detained For Throwing Chappal

  • As seen in the visuals that the crowd gathered at the venue were chanting 'Modi Modi' when Sidhu was addressing the gathering
  • Following this, a woman reportedly threw a 'chappal' at the leader, which missed its mark claiming that 'they (Congress) was allegedly talking against Modi.'

In yet another instance of a leader being attacked in public, Punjab Minister and senior Congress leader, Navjot Singh Sidhu was at the receiving end of a shoe attack while campaigning for three-time MP Deepender Hooda in Haryana's Rohtak constituency, on Wednesday.

As seen in the visuals that the crowd gathered at the venue were chanting 'Modi Modi' when Sidhu was addressing the gathering. Following this, a woman reportedly threw a 'chappal' at the leader, which missed its mark. Later, when detained by the police, she revealed that she had thrown her shoe as they (Congress)  was allegedly 'talking against Modi.'

The poll fight in Rohtak is between Congress' Deepender Hooda who is the son of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and BJP's Arvind Singh who is a  three-time MP and a former Congress leader for the 'Jat-dominated' constituency which will be voting in phase six of the Lok Sabha polls on May 12.

This is not the first time Sidhu has been attacked by disgruntled crowds. Earlier on Friday, Congress' star campaigner Sidhu's convoy was attacked with tomatoes while he was on his way to campaign in Congress bastion of Amethi where Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi faced Union Minister Smriti Irani in the previous poll phase on May 6.

The video that has been accessed by Republic TV shows people throwing tomatoes and pamphlets on the Congress leader's convoy while he was on his way to Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Men surrounding the convoy were shouting slogans of "Sidhu go back" and "Pakistan vapas jao."

This attack is a part of a recent string of such incidences; the latest occurred on  Saturday, when a man identified as Suresh, 33, slapped Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in broad daylight during a roadshow in the national capital campaigning for New Delhi AAP candidate Brijesh Goyal.

Taking to Twitter, the party blamed the Central government for lack of security since security comes under the ambit of Central government in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. 

Opposition leaders from various political parties have condemned the incident and blamed the Narendra Modi-led Central government for lapses in security measures.
