PM Narendra Modi raised Republic TV's newsbreak on Sam Pitroda's comment 'hua to hua' ('so what') on the 1984 Sikh riots during his rally in Haryana's Rohtak.
Launching an all-out attack, he said that Congress did not consider the victims of the riots as humans. He spoke at length about the allegations of complicity and conspiracy against some of the leaders of the Congress in the riots.
"A Congress leader spoke about the 1984 riots saying 'hua to hua (so what)'. Do you know who this neta is. He is closest to the Gandhi family. He is the biggest confidant of Gandhi family. He is the closest friend of Rajiv Gandhi. He is the guru of the Congress president.
"He told the media, that the 1984 riots happened, so what, for Congress the victims are not humans.
"In 1984, there was massacre of 1000s of Sikhs, but, today, Congress says 'hua to hua'. In Delhi alone, more than 2,800 Sikhs were killed, but, today, Congress says 'hua to hua'. A great number of Sikhs were burnt alive but, today, Congress says 'hua to hua'. Thousands of Sikhs were dragged out of their homes and burnt alive, but, today, Congress says 'hua to hua'. Several of homes and shops of Sikh were destroyed, but, today, Congress says 'hua to hua'. In Delhi, several Sikhs had to flee from the city, but, today, Congress says 'hua to hua'.
"In Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, several Sikhs were targeted and it was done by big leaders of the Congress. There is accusation on some Congress leaders of conspiring in the riots. Due its karma, the people of India gave it only 44 seats in 2014 and the country is not willing to give them those many seats in 2019 elections. ," he said.
The controversy over Gandhi family loyalist and Indian Overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda statement happened while he spoke to the media on the BJP's charge citing the Nanavati commission report that the instructions for the violence. He had reacted angrily saying, "I don't think so, this is also another lie, and what is with 1984? You speak about what happened in 5 years. It happened in 1984, so what? (1984 hua toh hua)" . His remark has received flak from several in the ruling government and the BJP.
