An unprecendented show of strength witnessed at Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi painted the town saffron a day ahead of his nomination filing for his bastion.

As Prime Minister Modi held a roadshow on the streets of Varanasi, with a swarm of supporters gathered around, the recurring question that looms over this election season is- Is there a Modi wave?

Here are five reasons that point towards a Modi wave in 2019, similar to the one in Lok Sabha 2014:

Massive Varanasi roadshow sign of the Modi wave

PM Modi rallied through the crowd, waving at them through the sunroof of his SUV, while his supporters showered him with petals and chants of 'NaMo again' as they waved the lotus flags. Lasting from afternoon to dusk, the roadshow commenced at the Malviya statue and went on for 7 kilometers till the the Dashashwamedha Ghat, wherein he participated in the Ganga Aarti, accompanied by some of the bigwigs of BJP.

Unprecedented battle in Bengal

Parliamentary elections 2019 saw an exceptional political fray between the BJP and TMC, as the former strove to make inroads amid muscular restrain from chief minister Mamata Banerjee in her bastion. Amit Shah in Republic Bharat's interview with Editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami confidently stated that people of West Bengal would be teaching didi (Mamata Banerjee) a lesson. Calling the Bengal government a 'dictatorship' the BJP president claimed that out of the total 42 seats, their party would grab a minimum of 23.

Collapse of Opposition unity

From Salman Khurshid's 'choor choor' attack on BSP supremo Mayawati to Arvind Kejriwal's flak to Rahul Gandhi and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav blaming the Congress party of having a 'big ego,' the Opposition that swore to stand united against PM Modi's government, seem to be crumbling internally.

Considering the political situation, the Modi wave finds its leverage from a fragmented Opposition, wobbly coalitions and the 'Modi versus Who' factor.

Projection of a united NDA

The flimsy Opposition, fortified the NDA with their alliances across the map. Despite months of bitterness, BJP formed a coalition with the Maharashtra saffron party, Shiv Sena and Nitish Kumar's JDU in Bihar. Apart from that a big influx of leaders jumping their boats to BJP from the likes of Tom Vadakkan to Jai Panda and even Jaya Prada.

Retreat and run by Opposition

The prospects of a mouthwatering Priyanka Gandhi Vadra versus Narendra Modi on the Varanasi seat came crashing down after Congress fielded Ajay Rai instead of the Gandhi sibling, despite her nod on the candidature upon her brother and Congress president's final call.
