Despite Congress chief Rahul Gandhi claiming that there were surgical strikes during Congress' tenure, his embarrassment continuous as Chief of Army Staffs from different years are coming ahead to say that 'Congress has a habit of lying'.

On Saturday, General Ved Prakash Malik who was 19th Chief of Army Staff and General VK Singh who served as the 24th Chief of the Army Staff hits out claims of Congress surgical strikes.

Taking to Twitter, General Ved Prakash Malik said that there has been no incident when political leadership has asked the army to carry out a surgical strike.

General Ved Prakash Malik served as COAS from 30 September 1997 to 30 September 2000. While enlisting six surgical strikes during the UPA-era, Congress had also said that there were two surgical strikes during former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA tenure:

1.January 21, 2000 (Nadala Enclave, across the Neelam River)

2. September 18, 2003 (Baroh Sector, Poonch)

However, General Ved Prakash Malik clarified that he cannot think of any such incidents where political leadership asked armed forces to carry out such a strike or gave assent to such plans by armed forces except one in 1984 under former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to pre-empt Pakistan Army and occupy Soltoro range in Siachen Sector. Moreover,  he was COAS during one of the strike enlisted by Congress under Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA.

In a similar stance, General V K Singh slammed the Congress party on their claims of ‘So-called Surgical Strike’ and said that he is sure Congress must have hired someone to 'invent another story.'

Gen VK Singh served as the 24th Chief of the Army Staff, from 2010 to 2012. The list given by the Congress party had claimed four surgical strikes under his tenure.

As per the Congress' six surgical strikes list,  August 30 -  September 1, 2011 in Sharda Sector, across Neelam River Valley in Kel, January 6, 2013 in Sawan Patra check post, July 27 - July 28, 2013 at Nazapir Sector and August 6, 2013  in Neelam Valley were the surgical strikes allegedly conducted under General VK Singh tenure as COAS. However, the BJP MP has categorically denied these claims.

Meanwhile, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi also went on to say in the press briefing on Saturday that 'Army isn't Narendra Modi's personal property'

"See, the Army isn't Narendra Modi's personal property. PM thinks the Army, Navy and Air Force are his personal property. These Surgical Strikes haven't been done by the Congress they've been done by the Army of India. And when Narendra Modi says that the Army's Surgical Strikes were video games, he's insulting the Army, not the Congress. And if you want the record, the list is there. So see, this work was done by the Army and it is their job. And we don't politicise the Army. The PM should have respect enough to not disrespect the Army," Rahul Gandhi said claiming surgical strikes under Congress' tenure.
