Amid the IPL season, Omar Abdullah and Derek O'Brien banter about their own 'IPL'

The country's glorious cricketing event has returned with its 12th edition, the Indian Premier League this time is oomphing up the existing, high-voltage atmosphere of the country, even engaging two politicians in a playful 'IPL' banter.

While the country's cricket fans have glued their eyes on the screens, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir has been off the pitch to the on-going cricketing phenomenon that began on March 23. 

The Abdullah scion shared his oblivion on twitter, asking his followers if the IPL began today? 

He tweeted: Did the IPL start today?

However, Omar was not the only politician who was clueless of the IPL, but even the TMC chief Derek O'Brien engaging in jovial banter who responded saying that 'we are all busy with our IPL, the Indian Political League' 

He tweeted: Hadn't a clue either. Sigh...all we are busy with is our IPL, Indian Political League, and added a smiley to his tweet. 

The TMC chief was referring to the Lok Sabha elections that will pan out in seven phases beginning from April 11 to May 19. The Indian Premier League falls at a time when national and political parties are occupied stitching alliances, releasing list of candidates fighting on different seats and campaigning for their parties.

As of now, some of the significant developments in the 'Indian Political League' are as follows: 

• Th BJP has announced 286 candidates so far, with PM Narendra Modi contending the Varanasi seat. 
• The 2019 elections will witness another showdown between Union Minister Smriti Irani and Congress president Rahul Gandhi for the glorious Amethi seat in Uttar Pradesh.
• BJP president Amit Shah will be contesting the Gandhinagar seat in Gujarat, instead of party veteran LK Advani, thus putting a probable end to his poll road for Lok Sabha elections. 
• SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has replaced his father and SP patriarch for the Azamgarh seat in Uttar Pradesh
