As PM Narendra Modi Gears Up For His Second Term, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani Congratulates Him For The ‘strong Mandate’, Looks Forward To ‘expanding Cooperation’

As PM Narendra Modi gears up for second term, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani congratulates the Prime Minister for ‘strong mandate’, looks forward to ‘expanding cooperation’.

Not just people all over the world, even leaders of many countries have taken note of the initial phase of the counting for Lok Sabha elections that indicated a thumping win for the National Democratic Alliance. Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his imminent second term as the PM and the ‘strong mandate’ he received. The former also looked forward to working in co-operation with the Indian PM to achieve ‘regional cooperation, peace and prosperity for all of South Asia.’

Hours after the counting process suggested that NDA was on its way to win over 350 seats, much more the required 272 majority mark to form the government, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani tweeted, “Congratulations to PM @narendramodi on a strong mandate from the people of India. The government and the people of Afghanistan look forward to expanding cooperation between our two democracies in pursuit of regional cooperation, peace and prosperity for all of South Asia.” 

Earlier, Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wickremesinghe had also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

The former had even tweeted in Hindi alongside Hebrew,  "My friend Narendra Modi, I warmly congratulate you on your impressive election victory! These electoral results once again prove your leadership in the world's largest democracy. We will continue to work together to strengthen the close friendship between India and Israel. Excellent, my friend," his tweet reads. 

The latter had termed it as a ‘magnificent victory!’ and expressing deep interest for a fruitful collaboration.

The counting of votes began at 8 am on May 23 in each of the 542 constituencies (the Vellore Lok Sabha polls had been countermanded).  

At the time of publishing this story, NDA was leading in 350 seats, UPA stood at 95 seats, while all other probable winners constituted 97 seats.
