In the race up to the Lok Sabha elections 2019, after Congress found itself entagled in a controversy over Haryanvi artist Sapna Choudhary's membership in the party, pictures of the artist meeting BJP leader Manoj Tiwari surfaced.
Artist-turned-politician, Manoj Tiwari admitted of meeting the Choudhary and told the media how she had denied her claims of joining Congress or campaign for the party.
He said, "The way Sapna conducted the press conference yesterday (Sunday) and the way she claimed that she never joined Congress or would not campaign for them, she is very clear, then again how does one use a photo and spread it like that."
"After that you know I am in touch with Sapna as an artist and even politics we are in touch. It is true that we met yesterday and we even had a meal together and she expressed that she is an artist and wants to live like one," he added.
The BJP leaders rebuffed the rumours that claimed Choudhary to contend on the Mathura seat against BJP representative, Hema Malini, saying "She is a superstar today, so without the consent of a superstar a party is claiming that she has joined the party, she will campaign and contend from Mathura seat, so all this is saddening. Coming from Congress and Priyanka ji, I believe is very ill-starred."
When questioned of Choudhary's ambitions on campaigning for BJP, Tiwari said that he would be 'happy' if she campaigned for PM Narendra Modi.
He said, "Anything can happen ahead, I met her and she was very hurt in the past 2 days because of fake news, because of which I spoke to her. And what happens ahead, time will tell."
"Big people are working for Narendra Modi to win, I would be happy if she works for Narendra Modi," he added.
On Sunday, minutes after Haryanvi artist and popular stage performer Sapna Choudhary refuted all reports of joining Congress, images of Congress Membership Form with Sapna Chaudhary's name and signature along with the fee receipt emerged on Sunday. This comes after the Haryanavi singer and dancer Sapna Chaudhary had claimed that her pictures with Priyanka Gandhi were oEven as Sapna ld and she will not campaign for any political party.
Moreover, UP Congress Secretary Narendra Rathi said that 'Sapna Chaudhary came and filled the membership form herself, her signature is on it. Her sister also joined the party yesterday, we have both of their forms'.
Meanwhile, the artists herself came ahead to denying claims of her joining Congress saying, "I have not joined the Congress party. The photograph with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is old. I am not going to campaign for any political party."
