As the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections concluded in the Bihar, and Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar cast his vote in a polling booth in Patna, former Bihar CM Lalu Yadav’s son and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav did not cast his vote because of a discrepancy in his electoral entry
Though the Election Commission upon receiving the report of the ‘goof-up’, has directed the district magistrate to take investigative action in the matter. Furthermore, there was an error not only in the photograph of Tejashwi, but the discrepancy was also there in his age. However, EC officials had said that Tejashwi will be allowed to vote if he comes with any of his identity cards.
Tejashwi Yadav has addressed around 200 rallies in the state and had urged people to vote, however, sources said that he was not present in Patna on the day of polling. While the RJD blamed the EC for the goof-up in his entry, NDA questioned his 'sense of responsibility'
Following the incident, Congress leader Shatrughan Sinha said that he is pained. Speaking to Republic TV on the low turnout of in the state, Sinha said:
"I am pained that 55 % of people do not vote. For Tejashwi I would say the same I am pained. I am not ashamed of him, I am pained, he is a wonderful boy, I am very fond of him but until and unless I talk to him and know his reasons, I cannot say he did wrong. I am proud of him."
Meanwhile, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Sushil Modi said that 'the so-called leaders' cannot even check their entry in the electoral roll.
