  • PM Modi has taken on the Congress over the UPA-era 'Hindu terror' charge
  • He was addressing a public rally at Maharashtra' Wardha on Monday
  • He said that the Congress will never be free of having committed this sin

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a scathing attack at the Congress' UPA-era 'Hindu terror' charge, while addressing a rally in Maharashtra's Wardha. It was the first time in recent memory that Narendra Modi has directly addressed the bogey that was coined by the earlier UPA government.

On day five of his campaign blitz ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, PM Modi campaigned for BJP-Shiv Sena alliance which will be going up against the NCP-Congress alliance in the state.

While addressing the massive rally, he tore into the Congress for coining the term 'Hindu Terror' and how this form of narrative is detrimental to the nation. He began by pointing out how for hundreds of years, nobody had made such an allegation:

"On the crores of people living in this country, the blotch of 'Hindu terror' has been put by Congress. You tell me, when you heard the term 'Hindu terror' did it not hurt you all? In the history of 1,000 years, have the Hindus ever committed a terrorist act? Is there even a single incident? Even the British, the colonisers, never said that the Hindus could be terrorists. Our culture is more than 5,000 years old, who has tried to defame it? Who coined the term, 'Hindu terror'? Who committed this sin of calling the Hindus terrorists?'

He went on to discuss specifics of how the charge was raised in Parliament, naming then Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde

"Can you forgive the Congress? And an alliance of this Congress? Remember, that on this soil of Maharashtra, Sushil Kumar Shinde, when he was in the government, had said this in his speech, and he discussed this term 'Hindu terror'.

Coming to the recent Samjhauta blast verdict, in which the accused were acquitted, the Prime Minister said, "A few days ago, the court declared the verdict. Now, the truth of Congress is coming to the fore. This sin that Congress has committed is to demean the Hindus, to demean the culture and history of the nation."

"It's a big sin," he continued, adding, "No matter how much they run, Congress will never be free from this sin. Even Congress is understanding this now, that the country has decided to punish them, hence, their politicians are running from the ground. The ones that they have called terrorists have awakened now. This peace-loving country where brotherhood exists, that considers everyone their family, has been called a nation of terror. Because of this, they don't have it in them to run for elections from a place where the majority lives. They have got their punishment for this 'Hindu Saffron Terror' theory that they have talked about. This is the reason why they have been forced to run for elections from places where the majority has turned into a minority."
